I took my baby away from her mum
I have a 12 week old baby daughter who I have just taken away from her mother due to her alcohol dependancy which she does not admit to. She hides empties, lies aboutamount consumed. She is in court this week for drink driving, lost her job related to drink issues and only last friday got cautioned by the police for drunk and disorderly.
What is the best way to either get residency or better stil get her mother to seek help (unlikely due to her been in denial)
idealy i would love her to kick the drink, realise what she is about to loose and for us to live a normal happy family life.
I am 40 and she is 38.
So far the social services havent seemed that interested and the way things are, I cannot afford a small fortune on lawyers!!!
Thanks

It seems likely that your (former) partner will have been drinking heavily during her pregnancy and it's possible that this may have affected your daughter's foetal development. Obviously, I hope that she's completely healthy but it would be wise to ask if the medical experts think that any tests should be carried out, so that any problems can be picked up as quickly as possible.
Having got that out of the way, here's the answer that you're really looking for:

sorry i had to read that 3 times!
are you the dad?
if so yes you have done the right thing, the baby needs looking after by someone properly and soba!
you do need help tho, i mean legal help,
are you on good terms with the mother? silly question i guess,
but..... maybe trying to talk and reason with her, making her see the baby being with you for the time being is best,
i cant give u loads of advice as i wouldnt know about these situations, tho i do strongly feel you have done the right thing,
a drunk mother past out, is no good to a 12 week old baby!
good luck xxx

Thank you all.....Firstly, yes I am the father, well 99% sure but i do have parental responsibility anyway. The mother has just lost her driving licence just last thursday for 2 yrs (drink driving)!!!!! I have spoke to social sevices again and now they say she DOESNT have a drink problem as she spoke to a councillor for all of TEN minutes, after making an appointment, well she wouldhave been very very stupid to have had a drink prior to this. Anyway the social worker has said I should return baby to mother as they have deciced that all thats wrong is 'mild post-natal depression'. If this is the case then she has had it for last 6 years and you can buy it in a bottle from the off licence!!!! Its no wonder some children AND babies get seriously injured or murdered at the hands of parents when "the proffesionals" make decisions like this.
I AM SO ANGRY !!!!!
