And ignore anyone who tells you their child was potty trained by 15 months - good for them if it's true, but your child is an individual and he'll do it when it's right for him. Meanwhile, no point in turning it into a battleground as he holds the major weapon!
I agree, my son just didn't want to but I felt pressured by other people saying 'Isn't he potty trained yet?', I left it and he rewarded me by deciding when he was ready and getting it perfectly at about two and half, within a fortnight he didn't want a nappy on at night and within two weeks of deciding he was ready he was going through the night too!.
You could try making it a game. Turn it into to something fun, but don't push him. I saw an episode on Dr. Phil where they had the child teach his/her action figure/doll how to use the potty. When the child did it, they had a little party. You could find out if he wants a new toy and tell him he will get it as soon as he uses the potty.
We've been there! Possibly try another potty - the existing one may be uncomfrtable. Also distraction helps - sit him inforntof the tv, or something to take his mind off it. A toilet trainer seat was also really helpful (again probably becuase of incresaed comfort). Finally, taking the bull by the horns and taking him out of nappies and straight into pants made the biggest progress. Although there were a few accidents, he soon got used to the discomfort and quickly learned to ask for the potty.
my daughter was going pee before she was two but was scared to do anything else. i actually think it might be more uncomfortable since they usually do it in their diaper standing up or laying down. sitting would feel a little more painful since their tensing up just trying to stay on the potty. she picked out her own seat that sits on the big potty and it stayed in sight and she sat on it sometimes and got used to it, then it was just a matter of realized when she had to go and getting her on it really quick. it took longer for her to realize when she had to go and they can't hold it till they learn, so be patient and watch her cues. plus if we got her on in time we made a big show of saying bye and flushing it and she found it quite fun. plus a little step stool she could use to get up and rest her feet on made her feel more comfortable too. he'll learn in time, but trying to rush him will actual make him too tense to relax. just give him all the comforts he needs, and try to get him to sit on it while he brushes his teeth or colors and sit next to him. then when he's comfortable with the seat, try to catch him in the act and make a big fuss over him. he'll get in tune with it sooner with encouragement than training.
