birthmark?

at around 3 weeks old i noticed a red mark on my babys shoulder, it looked a bit like a peace sign.
its now fully filled in (6 weeks) and raised and a deep red- a bit like a blood blister.
should i be concerned or is it just a birthmark?

if it is raised then maybe you should ask your GP to refer baby to a dermatologist , has the midwife not commented on it, have you shown it to the doctors at the post-natal clinic?

midwife signed me off before it developed, and thats why im asking- if its something to be concerned about ill go visit doctors but my mam said it could be a birthmark

if it came 3 weeks after the birth I don't know whether it is exactly a birthmark, my 3 children all had the same red birthmark immediately on their neck, and i don't think it should be raised, but don't be alarmed about it, make an appointment to see your GP to have it looked at. if it seems the change appearance then it should be checked out.

My daughter had a mark like this on her chin. As you said, it looks like a blood blister and developed after her birth, hers grew to about the size of a 5p coin..Obviously we were concerned and mentioned it at her check up - doctor looked at it and told us it would be gone by he time she was 3 or 4 and they were right. Now she's nearly 7 you cannot even see where the mark used to be.
Obviously I'm no expert though and haven't actually seen your baby so mention it to your health visitor next time you see her.

sounds like a capillary haemangioma, my son had one on his upper lip, he had laser treatment then surgery as it was preventing him from feeding properly. If it's not causing any problems it won't need any treatment. Nothing to worry about, best wishes to you

Hi, my son had this on his chest. When he was born, it looked just like a faint mark, then gradually turned a deep red and very raised. Its called a strawberry neavus. They fade with time and apparently disapear altogether. My son is now nearly 4 and its much fainter now. (I dont notice it at all although it covers the whole side of his chest!)
When he was born they said they wouldnt use surgery on it as they are harmless, and they will disapear.

Don't worry about it myselfness, it does sound like a strawberry mark. My niece had one and she got quite upset when it started to fade! If you just accept it as you would any other part of your baby he/she will grow up to accept it also. If you make a fuss and try to hide it it will become a problem. It will fade away.
