Travel Cot for an older child...
8 Answers
Hi. My 19 month old daughter has been co-sleeping with us, and I'd now like to gently get her in to her own bed... I don't want to put her in her own room yet and would like to try her in her own bed by our own. the cot in her room is really big and too heavy to move around (it's one that turns in to a bed and a sofa later), so I'd like to try a travel cot. However, they all seem to be only for children up to a certain weight (more than her weight now). Does anyone have any ideas what I should buy that will keep her safe, secure and comfortable by our bed. Many thanks

But both my kids moved into a toddler bed straight form their cot - they had a very good one in ikea with a rail right across and the two ends were enclosed so it was very secure - and only a few inches off the ground! Depends if you have enough room though:

When my kids were just over a year old, they tried to climb out the cot, it was safer to move them into the beds. We just left their room doors open, but put a safety gate on them. There was nothing that they could come to harm with in their bedrooms. Tbh though, they rarely ever got out of their beds until we came in to get them - either they were well trained or we were just lucky. ;o). They didn't start getting out of their beds on their own until they were about school age!!
In practical terms for you, you would probably wake the moment that she moved as I can remember that you dont really sleep that deeply while they are really young.
