curcumsistion
Hiya guys,
just wondered what your thoughts were on curcumsising when your child is young?
I have always said i would have my boys curcumsised at a young age because its easier for it to heal and its much more hygienic also most men i had met (im not just saying previous lovers!) have been done. Now i have found out that most of my male friends and friends husbands have NOT been done and they have pointed out that what about when your child becomes sexually active and will they not feel confident without a foreskin?! This is there opinion because i think it looks beter when curcumsised i seem to have found that most American men have been done but it looks like most English men have not! Are most men you know done or not and do you think your child should be:
older- can make up own mind but risks infections when growing up and more pain when recovering from op
or
Younger ie between 1 and 5- has no choice if done or not, heals quicker and is cleaner but then may effect confidence when older and sexually active.
Hope you understand what im trying to asking? i value all your points and opinions,
Cheers x x

We made the decision not to have our son circumcised, after doing some research about it and going with our gut feeling.
About how it looks: I think that is really just a matter of what you're used to. I had only ever seen circumcised penises and at first thought my son's looked a little weird. Now I'm used to it, and find it to look just as "normal" as circumcised penises. Around here (Berkeley, CA) it really seems like just as many people are choosing not to circ. their sons in infancy, and there is a very big anti-circumcision movement - I'm sure you can find something about that online through google.
About hygiene: everything I've read that seems like a valid source, says that an uncircumcised penis is no harder to keep clean, and not much more likely to get infections, than circ. penises. There are lots of medical people who are recommending NOT circumcising because any medical benefits have been disproved.
Also, to us the whole idea seemed a bit cruel to do to a newborn, and I couldn't imagine how I'd feel if something went wrong. If he wants to have it done when he's older, I will support his decision, but we felt that it should be his decision.
I am Jewish, so this decision caused some consternation with my family, but I talked to them about it and they got over their consternation, and haven't mentioned it since.
I wrote my answer without reading anybody else's, and have now scrolled down to find that apparently I've already answered this question several times!
Sorry wonky, you're going to be really confused here, but I swear, promise, cross my heart and hope to die that this post and the one above are from the real me.
I believe also that it is perfectly fine to have it done for hygiene reasons.
