cotbed to bed
Hello,
My son is now 14months old and is sleeping in a cotbed.
He's walking and climbing as they do now.
So, when do I move him from the cotbed to the bed??
Is he ready now or is it too early?
TIA

.... Or you could just keep him in the cot and try to keep him a baby as long as poss coz it goes far too quick!

My view is that if he is climbing, then it is time to take the sides of the cot. It is a long way to fall over the top of a cot and he could hurt himself. My kids both went into a toddler bed about that age and as elf angel said, we put a stairgate on their bedroom door and made sure that their rooms were safe for them to be wandering about in, and left them to it.
I guess it depends on the child, but ours never tended to get out of their beds at all until we went into them, they just used to lie in bed and sing or shout until we appeared - that lasted until they were about 5 - obviously we didn't have the gate on their door by then, but they just never ventured far!!

if he is trying to climb out then its time to change.
put a gate on the dorrway so he cant wander though.
my son stayed in his at home til he was 2, but at my mums he stayed in the cotbed (didnt even try and climb) until he was almost 3.
be careful if buying a barrier for the side of the bed as some wont fit certain beds.

Hi, my daughter was the same age when we did it. We let her help us take her cot apart and made a big excited fuss about her having a 'big girls bed' we also got a duvet set with her favourite night garden on and she was SOOO excited she wanted to get in there and then!! we never bothered with sides as it would have been yet another thing to deal with when you take them off!! its only a childs bed so its not high and she only rolled out about 3/4 times usually in the duvet so no harm once she didnt even wake up!! she hasn't fallen out since and she is now 27 months!! oh and as already said we put a babygate on the bedrroom door so there was no scare that she would go wandering round in the night!! Good luck i'm sure he'll love it :-) x x
good luck, hope all is going well tonight so far! We put our little on in a bed around the same time, i agree with some of the other posts on here, as soon as they start climbing out, its a good idea to change to a bed as they could get hurt!
Our little one loves to get out of bed and atempt to creap in to ours! We followed the super nanny thing to try and keep him in, which was hard but definantly worked!
Hope he liked the new covers!

Well, he slept all night.
We put him in bed at 7:30, turned the lights off and closed the door. He talked to himself for a while and shook the bed guard as he did with the side of the cot!!
Then he fell asleep on the wrong side of the bed of course, I moved him on to the pillow and thats where he stayed (he was still there at 5:30 when I checked on him)!!
He woke up at 8:10 - lie in compared to usual?! and he wanted to stay in bed playing!!
Sooooo cute!!
Thanks for all you're advice, glad we did it!!
