Hi, Hope someone can help me with this...

1) How can you find out whether someone has been adopted?

2) If someone has been adopted - does their birth have to be re-registered and a new birth certificate issued with their new parents?

Thanks in advance.

Once someone I worked with was applying for a passport; the office secretary was dealing with it for him (he needed a passport for business trips).  He gave her his birth certificate and an adoption certificate (she showed it to me, that's how I know).  There was no new birth certificate.  The original birth cert gave the name and surname he had at birth.

i was adopted and my birth certificate is dated 2 years after my birth year..as obviously i was issued with a new one when i was officially adopted..i have traced my real parents and applied for my original birth certificate and that was dated the year i was born...mullein

As far as I am aware your birth certificate is your birth certificate and it cannot be changed or re-issued under a different name! As far as being adopted, I would suggest trying the local adoption agencies as they can provide details as to whther you have been adopted or not!

when your birth is registered you take the surname of the birth mother or father,,when you are legally adopted in a court of law you are issued with a new certificate with your adopted parents surname..i should know as i am adopted and have both birth certificates,,,mullein
i stand corrected then.... mullein
A child does not have to take either parents surname when the birth is registered, it can be any name the mother chooses:
