Changing Wriggly Babys Nappy

Hi

Has anyone got any tips on changing a very wriggly baby's nappy?

My 1 year old is getting worse by the day.

I started to put the changing matt up high as i noticed she wouldn't fidget when changing her out in public facilities. That phase has passed and it doesn't matter if shes up high or on the floor she''ll twist her whole body round and wander off.

When she has a dirty i now normally time her bath in with that as she fidgets that much that i want to make sure she has been properly cleaned so i bath her. The dirty ones are a nightmare to clean especially when there an 'exploding one' then she wanders off half way through changing!!!

A friend commented the other day how quick i was at changing but thats because you have to. So its not that i'm doing it slow. She's never been a baby for sitting for any lenght of time. So even trying to changer her on my knees is a big no no..

It takes me and my boyfriend to hold her down now and she still twists her body and i'm worried that she'll hurt herself one of these days. We talk, sing, brush her teeth, and do anything to distract her but it doesn't work

I've mastered changing her sitting down and standing up but it is a pest. Giving her a toy, picture, bank cards... sometimes works. she arches her back and is sometimes straight from the shoulders down when i change her

I have the nappy and wipes ready so not a second is wasted

Any tips we're running out of ideas.... Roll on toilet training!!!

Sorry I can't help, but I'm so glad I'm not the only one struggling!! My 14month old daughter sounds just like your lttle one, sometimes blowing raspberries at her works, or giving her the baby wipes to pull out of the packet, but mostly she's a nightmare, we've tried just about everything to distract her, but nothing seems to work for long - my partner can't change her without me holding her down and like you I'm scared of hurting her, she's like a mini houdini! I was begginning to think, it was something I was doing wrong, but maybe it's just a phase?! :)

It's a phase all babies go through - they realise they can wriggle, which is great fun, and makes Mum and Dad pull funny faces!

With my youngest, I used to kneel on her! It's not as bad as it sounds - if you balance carefully, you can rest your right knee on her chest, which stops her turning over, and keeps her failry still.

As far as hurting herself, don;t worry. Babies are a lot stronger than you think, and she won't wriggle into any positions that hurt her, so feel free to be firm. If she is hurting herslef, or you are hurting her, she will let you know, so be firm in holding her.

My daughter does exactly the same.
We have her in pull up nappies now and change her standing up.
It worked a treat for us!

Stickers! Baby Picky was a NIGHTMARE - same thing, wiggling about, twisting, arching his back. I remember it taking me, my husband and my mum to change him once, it was crazy! Got a packet of stickers and if he starts, I give him a sticker and by the time it detaches from his fingers and he's had a proper look at what it is, nappy changed! He's 2 1/2 now so it's not working quite as well as he's getting canny, but as soon as he's used to his new baby brother being he, he's straight into pants! Good luck, let us know how it goes!

making progress with the wriggly one. doing it on my lap now unless its an exploder and i'll get the map out and lots of distractions

i dont even bother trying to lie him down,had far too many episodes of nasty stuff all over the place,i change him while hes stood up playing with a toy etc.just distract him with something resting at a level he can reach,the sofa for example,and its done in 2 seconds!
