Why not just sit your little one on the potty after a meal and read to him for a little hile, distract him and see if anything happens.
Does he actually know when hes about to wee or poo?
I used to sit my lad on the potty next to a running bath and it often encouraged him to wee.
is the potty comfortable for him? we tried 3 different types before we found right one.
or have you considered a family toilet seat? it has a little seat hinged above the normal seat. Some children like to copy parents.
At the end of the day, he will only do it when ready, if you force the issue then he may get upset.
Someone told me once that starting too young can mean months or years of stress for both parent and child and child will still only get it when they are meant to.
I think my son was 3 when he finally got the idea and now at 4.5 he still has accidents in bed a few times a week.
My daughter is 22 months and she will happily sit on the family toilet seat but wont do anything. she will get there in time.

Boys tend to be later than girls - I did have a potty about the house and sat them on it before bath time from when they were about 2ish, but I only tried properly when they were 3, in the summer before they started nursery. I used the toilet training in a day method with them and it worked really well with only a few accidents. Doing it in the summer also means it is easier with clothing and warmer if they need to do a wee outside and not as uncomfortable if they are wet. Also helps with night training as they sweat more at night and have a less full bladder.
Hi, I totally understand where you are here! My son (now 4) was sat on the toilet before bath time every night from about 19months, at 1st he wasn't having any of it and ended up refusing/crying not to get on the loo before his bath. In the end we bought a "potty chair" that could be a potty in the living room (nice I know, but these things must be done!) and folded out to steps and a loo seat when he felt like using the loo. To let him make his own mind up where he wanted to pee was the best decision and he was dry in 4months!
My daughter on the other hand is 16 months now & telling me "wee wee" and whenever we go to the loo she stands outside shouting "Mama wee wee!" so Im thinking she maybe ready!
I think you have to play it by ear, place a potty in his bedroom, one in the living room and get a padded loo seat that comes off.
They all get there in the end, it's very rare to see a child start school in pull ups!!
Good luck!!

my daughter is 2 and a half and is potty trained, it has taken a few months, but we have got there in the end, she still wears a nappy at bedtime though, but most of the time its dry and she gets up to go to the toilet, and i never thought i would succeed with her because she didnt want to know and had lots of peeing accidents..so just persevere and it will happen
