my 2 yr old granchild might have to go in to a nursery

for 1afternoon a week.5 hours.do they take children

for this short period of time,& how much are we expected to pay. thanks.......

All nurseries have different policies about whether they will take chilldren for half day or only whole day sessions. They normally have set session times as well, so if the afternoon session starts at 1pm and you want to drop the child off at 12, you might have to pay for a full day - this is something to negotiate with the nursery. I assume you are in the UK - prices vary from region to region, in the North of England you can expect to pay anything from �20 to �30 for a full day, with half day sessions ranging from around �13 to �18. Any decent nursery will have a prospectus they will send you, and will let you look around before making a decision.

why not try a child minder instead??  They tend to be much more flexible in terms of the hours they will take your little one for.  Most child minders will have other children that your grandchild will mix with, and good, registered childminders will have a wide variety of activities available, just as in a nursery.  In our village (where there is no private nursery) the childminders take the kids to Mothers and Toddlers and other groups etc, as well as doing Christmas shows, taking part in Gala week etc etc. It may also be easier for your grandchild to mix with only a few children, rather than a much larger nursery group.  My sis in law found most nurseries she tried very inflexible  and if she was 30 mins late picking her wee one up, the nursery charged her for a whole extra half day.
