I'm sorry Penny but personally I don't like  it either. I think it's boyish (Matthew) and makes me think of the Busted guy they always called Matty.

I think it's a lovely name. And she wouldn't have to spend her whole life spelling her name because it's not too unusual (She'd only have to say that it's with a y not ie) The only thing is people might always ask her if it's short for matilda?

Hi There!

I think its a great name, my friend named her daughter Mattison and she gets Matti for short.  I love it personally!

I think it's a nice nickname but not ideal as a full name. Call me old fashioned but I think you have to bear in mind that when they get older and have to write CV's or if they choose a responsible career like a solicitor they need a name that they can use without embarassment.
I'm not too keen either, but if that's what a baby is called, you can guarantee it will suit them.  babys just grow into their names.  A lifetime of explaining that infact Matty is a girl may not be much fun for the wee girl (it's Boy Named Su territory).  Also not fond of people who think of 'original' ways to spell a childs name, just for the sake of being different (or because they're a bit dim).  eg Nikkola, Darrin, Kristofer etc.  Also hate thickies who spell gaelic names incorrectly eg Niamh becomes the hideously american Neve.

I think it's a teriffic name! I have never understood why people call their children the same name as everyone else. My name is Kerris (Kick3m0n will hate the spelling - traditionally spelt Cerys!!) and I have always thanked my parents for giving me a different name. Hence, I called my eldest son Luca and my youngest Jay. Different but not too difficult. It has transpired that his class mates think it's a cool name! (luca, Jay is pre school!)

Who wants ten children to look around when you call the name Jessica, Emily or Charlotte?

matty - its sounds very immature to me, even discounting the male female thing if you call yourself matty everyone you meet will thing its a nickname rather than a proper name and assume your a bit sad for still using it at 35.
Think it's a terrific name - but just think that she may be teased with names like "tatty matty" and so on.
Le Chat....LOL....Kerris is a lovely name though, regardless of my personal whims on spelling!  I do like different names too.....and would always avoid (like the proverbial plague) any name that appears in the Top Ten of recent years.   Agree totally re all the Lucys, Katies, Jacks etc.....
no!
i think it's really nice! I've never heard anyone called that before, i am sure she will be proud to have such an unusual name.
Call your child what the hell you like, who gives a stuff what other people think.
Personal I don't like it, but that's just my preference my hubby liked the name blu for our no2 boy or girl but we ended up more traditional. It is hard to know whats right but at the end of the day when you have the baby and you can see them you get a much better sense of what they should be called. I know so many people who changed some aspect of the name they had picked out.

I am not fond of "nicknames" used as names.  Matty to me sounds like a nickname for Matilda.  You might consider Matilda, to be called Matty.

I think it's a lovely name, but people might presume it's short for Matilda.  I wanted to call my youngest Martha but was talked out of it because no one else liked it and I still regret it even though she got it as her middle name.
I think mattison is very pretty . matty would be cute for a knickname. I have a girl named Kamren so imagine the raised eyebrows i get . boy's name spelled in a feminine fashion. and if you ever decide to name your own girl think over what I did with my son. His name is Elijah, which I don't completely love. I like Eli though. His father is set on calling him elijah and doesn't like the knickname Eli. So I realized if we called him Elijah all the time and never used Eli as a knickname than when he goes into his preteens there's a good chance he'll decide that he wants to use Eli instead (since kids like to do stuff like that to define themselves) . So his father gets to have Elijah for the first decade and after that hopefully I'll get to use the name I like. sounds crazy but hey, might as well take advantage of those crazy times in kids lives, and as a baby he is cute and fitting in elijah for a name anyway.
you could always have the name matty as short for matilda

If you call her Matty - please ensure she is always slim!!  I don't think "tatty" is the worst rhyme cruel kids will come up with.

Personally it would just remind me of the little boy my friend used to babysit.

I guess if it really hinders her career choicese she can change it.  I suggest, if you REALLY love the name Matty, call her something "normal" in the middle that she can use for "business" purposes later in life if she wants to!  Hope that's a fair compromise between your wishes and your concerns!  (If you're actually thinking of naming a child that, as opposed to it all just being a hypothetical chat!)

:-)

I...don't like it. No....
i dont know about the name matty for a girl but i just adore the name maddison for a girl and when i have a child (hopefully a girl) i shall call her maddison and maddi for short maddison mae james. (maddi mae) we have dicided that i get to name the girl and he gets to name the boy, last we spoke of it he liked the name isaac, zac for short
