Sorry, this is more of a rhetorical question as in "What the hell is going on!!" A man in his early 20's attacks a young girl as she walks home, leaving her traumatised & terrified to leave her home. And the judge does not send him to prison because he will lose his job in a takeaway where he works from 4pm until 11pm. The 'reasoning' behind it being that he is the only breadwinner in the home he shares with his wife and 4 year old child. So he receives NO custodial sentence and is free to roam the streets still, EVERY night when he leaves work at 11pm!! What the???!!! And why would his wife want him to stay after that??!! Why would the takeout want to continue to employ him?!! They are all acting as though he has shoplifted or something. What is going on!! No wonder the world is in complete chaos. I'm just venting in sheer disbelief. I stumbled on this site, didn't have a particular question other than this what I've just read in the news.!!!!! Unbelievable. I'm waiting to read or hear from somewhere that I have somehow misunderstood or got it totally wrong. Because I give up. Stop the bus I wanna get off!!

I can see that all the mitigation boxes have been ticked (guilty plea, 1st offence, remorse, family impact etc) but I agree with you that the impact on the victim has not been sufficiently taken in to account.

( sorry I don't know how to edit my original post yet) 250 hours of community service and a six month SUSPENDED sentence. My heart goes out to that young girl who was forced to the ground and sexually attacked. I am so sorry that our justice system has severely failed you. I only hope that you are surrounded with loving family and friends because you must feel so alone and scared right now of how someone can do this to you and walk away with NO consequences. Poor girl. I think I would be devastated and absolutely terrified knowing that her attacker is carrying on with life as normal. She must feel worthless with that result!!!!
This is a joke yes?? !
Hi Dee, welcome to AB.
It is customary to put a link in to a question of this nature so that we may read the story for ourselves.
Where did you read this?
Sorry yes , I agree shoota x

Snowball I'm not sure where to answer you, I've not got the hang of navigating this site yet. I don't even normally bother with social media much at all but I'm in such disbelief that I wanted to type it or something to get it out!! Why a joke? Noo I don't joke about such henious things!! What do you mean? A joke that I put it on here? If that's what you mean then I apologise, I don't know what the usual general chats or questions are about. I was actually looking up something about wallpaper & batches & I ended up here! So, after reading that utter travesty & beyond injustice in the news I wanted to vent. Because I honestly can't quite believe it & maybe I had to type it to try to make some sense. Or maybe someone can explain to me what the hell has happened here and where on earth is the justice for this poor young girl who will most likely never be the same again. I'm sorry if I sound a bit over dramatic, I'm just gobsmacked. The area is Oldham, Manchester. I did not know if it was allowed to put names. This actually happened in 2018 but obviously the attacker must have only just been 'sentenced' if you can call it that, for it to be in the news now. God only knows how her parents and loved ones feel. I can only imagine that they have never felt so helpless!! NO prison sentence for a sexual attacker because he might lose his job. For Funks Sake. God help us. I'm scared if this is justice. Genuinely scared. And I really feel for this victim, what a slap in the face!!
If his name has been published in the press you can publish it on here.

Shoota, I apologise, I read it in the Manchester Evening News online, let me get a link one minute. But I'm sure if you put that info in it will come up. Where do I answer people on here please? Like this yes?

When the bus stops I'll get off with you... (the bus that is.)

'Opportunistic' and 'out of character' his brief says. And what a 'significant impact' it would have on his life if he went to prison!! No regard for the 'significant impact' on the girls life IMO. And he only stopped & ran away because she pressed the SOS on her phone, sounding an alarm. It's anyone's guess what would have happened if that alarm wasn't raised. But it doesn't read to me as though he was going to stop. If they both live in the same area there's a very high chance that she could pass him on the street anytime. Imagine how awful
I can see that all the mitigation boxes have been ticked (guilty plea, 1st offence, remorse, family impact etc) but I agree with you that the impact on the victim has not been sufficiently taken in to account.

Shoota! Yes I want off, had enough o this rubbish. Thank you for putting the link up. I'm a technophobe!
Appalling sentence.
Question Author
True, yes, but look at how many murderers committed their 1st murder, plead guilty, only to be released in no time and murdered again. I just find it so frightening. And so must she
The magistrates should have refused to accept jurisdiction and sent the case to the Crown Court for trial. magistrates can give no more than six months.
Question Author
I see. Yh, but it makes you wonder why they didn't give the maximum they could, 6 months is nothing, Or like you say refused. I mean, they have given that insulting sentence, he's still got his liberty, his job, his family, his life, apparently, still in tact, barely affected. His brief talking about him like he's just had a bad day or something. I don't know, I'm missing something. He must have the Ted Bundy charm or something! The judge told him how much he liked him didn't he?! It's just weird. Maybe there is more to it or maybe the world is just crazy. Madness.
Also, off topic,( a topic that I'd guess you are all sick of hearing/talking about) I was talking to someone today who told me that there were fewer deaths last year than there usually/typically are in a year. My natural reaction was to say don't be so ridiculous, but this person was adamant & said this was from a reliable source & to do some research. Does anyone have any idea if there is any truth in that because I find it very hard to believe, but its not the 1st time I've heard things along the same lines. OK I'll shut up now, I'm just curious if anyone else believes that to be truth. I don't know what to believe any more, me.
