When Im in that much pain, I take 4 Aleve (IB profene)wait an hour and then take a shot of NightQuil (for the antihistamine) that will make you drowsy. I know your not suppossed to mix medicines, but I've been in so much pain were I just didnt care.

I really sympathise. Visit your GP who may prescribe some pills such as Mefenamic Acid or Diclofenac Sodium, both these can be taken with paracetamol so you have a two-pronged attack on the pain. He/she may want to do some investigations if they continue to be bad each month. The only time I have ever been pain-free was when I was on the contraceptive pill. Hot bath can help too. Good luck.

Ufoetuanately period pains are not cureable. However there are medications that can ease the pain even ones that are without prescription.Period pains are caused by contractions of the womb.
Oh lord, here we go!
I used to get period's like you.. almost like being in labour... I started taking vitamin B6... look it up online.. its the best vitamin for a girl to take... oh and make sure your drinking LOADS of water.. it will help also... good luck lilposhgirl.. I really hope you feel better soooon!!!

and what medications would they be Dr?

Perhaps you could name a few of the drugs which we should be looking for that are available. I appreciate that perhaps you cant name brand names, but by all means tell us the active ingredients to look out for.

i think the "doc" is a bit busy using another member name in film and tv!! 123345-can u beleive it????? lol

Hi lilposhgirl, i dont know how old you are so i hope this is not inappropriate advice but i used to be like you i had really bad period pains i used to have a day off of school every month it was AWFUL!!!

I started taking the pill at 19 and have never had period pain since, like i say if you are too young for this or are already on it then im sorry but it really did work for me.

Hope it helps x

I used to get period pains so bad that I was sick and fainted.

I learnt this from a hypnotherapist. It's all about relaxing. Usually when you feel pain you tense up, certainly around where the pain is. When the contraction pain starts relax your body (do the opposite to feeling the pain). Breathe in and out to let the oxygen into your muscles, it may sound like you are giving birth and is a bit like Lamaze! I find it starts to work after around 10 minutes, the pain gets much much less. Painkillers are good, but unfortunately, there are only so many you can take and they are not quick enough at the start of your period, so this definately helps.

Years ago we used to put a hot water bottle on our tums .. and our mothers used to give us a drop of gin and hot water..may be old fashioned but it works !

I'm 16 and this is the first one ive ever had which has been this bad and i started when i was like 13. And like rebecca611 (well not as bad) i do feel like im about to be sick. Will they continue to be like this?

take a hot bath and get somone to run to the store or garage to get you the pills you need {ie dancealots answer} .
The antihistamines do help you sleep as well , so if theres a late opening tesco or asda nearby ..get somone to drop in there.

sleep sound tonight .
I used to get terrible pains and sickness too. I have a 6 week cycle sometimes longer and the pain was unbearable. In the end my GP prescribed something called 'ponds'? Don't know what the actual ingredient was, obviously this is the trade name, I'm not sure what the drug was, but probably something similar to suzannew mentions. They worked a treat and I could at least walk.

I have no pains now, but then I have also had five children. On the other hand they stayed painful even after number 4, fortunately, I get so few a year it was ok. Then number five was a ceasarean and that has totally sorted me out, I barely noticed them now.

That is perhaps a bit extreme, and in all fairness I would somtimes recommend the pain rather than the children hehehehehe.

I did have a friend however, who used to get terrible pain she had a surgical procedure to 'stretch' her womb. I think it improved things, but wasn't as successful as she had hoped. I'm sure Dr Sillykova will enlighten us.

Hope this helps.
Mimi

I can totally sympathise with you. I used to be completely incapacitated by period pains for one day a month, meaning that i had to take time off work etc. When you can't stand up straight you know it's bad. Worse still when i tried nurofen i had an awful migraine, with aura (flashing lights in your eyes) (By the way i'm not on the pill)

But about 3 months ago i tried FEMINAX and it works! Honestly. I just take 2 capsules on the first day of my period (as this is the day i get it worst) as a precaution before any pain starts and so far i haven't been bad at all.

This was like miracle for me, and i hope it works for you too X

mimififfi I wonder if you are talking about Ponstan? Also know as mefenamic acid. It is amazing stuff I could not have got through my teens without it, then I went on the pill and very rarely get pains.

lilposh get yourself to your doc and ask for mefenamic acid, it really works. Also I find that a hot water bottle helps. I also tried them sticky heat patches you place on your tummy, they worked well but Im allergic :(

Ali: quite possibly. I know it was a miracle drug that's for sure.
soak in a hot bath with lavender and camomile take 2 ibuprofen a warm cup of milk lay on your left side with a pillow under your tummy and one between your legs then start wiggling your toes and before you know it the pain will almost be gone.trust me it helps. good luck.
