Alcohol & pregnancy
There seems to be alot in the news recently about alcohol & pregnancy.I just wondered whether it had changed anyones views on the subject or made any pregnant ladies out there cut it out completely.
I am pregnant with my second child, and have a glass of wine at weekends, but I am fed up with being told it's a no-no.
Views anyone??

I was devastated to find out that I should also avoid: soft cheese, blue cheese, nuts, pate & anything containing liver, shellfish and some moisturisers cos they contain vitamin A!
My mother consumed all the above and my brother and I are fine.

I'm pregnant - well, for the remainder of tonight anyway, I'm getting induced tomorrow!
I haven't drank any alcohol since we started trying for a baby.. saying that, I'm not really a drinker anyway and haven't got a problem with those having the odd glass of wine etc. it's just not for me.
I think a lot of people were shocked when the teenage pregnancies programme was on and one girl chose to still go clubbing in the later stages of her pregnancy.
I do miss brie & pate :(

Im 23weeks pregnant and this is my 4th child with my 3rd i went out every weekend and drank and my little boy is fine. Not saying it it fine 2 do that thinking back drinking that much was silly .With this baby only been out twice and dont drink when im in the house.I no a lady who didnt drink and smoke ate all the right things and her baby was born 8 weeks eary and born with a hole in his heart .It gets me mad that they try 2 put every thing down 2 drink and smoking and telling us that it will harm r babys when infact i dont think they really no .
my little boy is 8months old now.
when i was pregnant i stopped drinking completly. i'm a teenage girl, as most people know we like a drink or 6 haha and i'll be honest i really missed that whole going out with my friends and having a dance and a drink but no matter how much i wanted a drink i never did. never. not even a drop. this was before the latest set of studies came out about even just a sip of alcohol can effect your babie.
i always go off the rule of what you wouldn't give/do to a babie don't do/take when pregnant. deffinatly wouldn't give a new born babie a glass of wine - being pregnant in my oppinion isn't any different.
each to their own and all that but if something would have been wrong with my child i'd have been wondering forever if maybe what i did when i was pregnant was something to do with it. i could never forgive myself. so really in answer to your question no the new studies didn't sway me - my own feelings of guilt and wanting my babie to be ok and wanting to make sure my son had the best possible start in life made me do what i did :)

ConfusedMum, I'm impressed. I've know friends who were pregnant in their teens and didn't change their lifestyle at all. Their idea of a balanced diet who to have a fag in one hand and a drink in the other. Good on you for breaking that stereotype. Sorry if that sounds really patronising, its not meant to be :-)
Helliebobs, thank you so much for saying that I can have Stilton cooked. I too have a serious penchant for Stilt & Broc soup. I'm pulling my jacket on now to go shops and buy the stinkiest block I can find!

Pixie, I found that articles on what you should and shouldn't eat in pregnancy don't mention the fact you can eat these cheeses if they are cooked. In my copy of the NCT Bumps & Babies magazine, it says, under which foods to avoid:
Blue-veined cheeses e.g. Stilton and soft mould ripened cheeses e.g. Brie, Camembert, even if they are made from pasteurised milk.(These cheeses can be eaten if they are cooked through and piping hot.)
Enjoy your soup!!!!
