my sister in law is due in april so i was wondering when would be the best time to throw it and what sort of things i could do for it any info regarding invites and stuff because it is reletively unheard of over here would be great. cheers all xxx

Hi, We recently threw a baby shower for my friend. A lot of the invites/games etc were brought from Ebay! We played games and gave her all our presents ready for the birth. Was a good night. Hope yours goes well.

We throw showers in the states all the time. The general order of business is introductions (everyone tell who you are and how you know the mom to be) then a few games (do a Google search for baby shower games, you'll get a million options) then food, mom-to-be first, so that once everyone is settled and munching, she's mostly done, and while they have food in front of them they watch her open her gifts.

My very very favorite baby shower item is a diaper cake (nappy cake!) Check out this website:

They are the perfect centerpiece, you can use them to play a shower game (have guests guess how many nappies and supplies the cake contains - whoever's closest wins a prize, a small candle or a lotion or something. And when the shower is over, mom to be can take the cake home as your gift to her. Very practical - flowers or paper centerpieces end up in the garbage.
