Positive?
When you get a positive test, why does the GP need to confirm it, - ie what does he/she do other than give you another test, the same as what you could do yourself?

I saw my GP after a positive pregnancy test and she said that the off the shelf tests are just as reliable as the tests they do (& far quicker for a result!). Also she was able to check the meds I was on to ensure they were OK for pregnancy - which they were not, so they were changed.
The GP will be able to give you leaflets and a quick check over whilst you are waiting for the date of your booking in appointment with the midwife.

I went to the GP after I did home tests ~ I have never had a test at the GPs, but they did book the appointment with the midwife at the surgery for me..and I liked the fact that my GP knew first hand that I was pregnant as I had been seeing him for other medical problems.
As the others have said, the GP doesn't need to confirm it though ~ it's just a good idea to let them know in some cases.

now a days they don't give you a pregnancy test as the ones you buy are so accurate - my dr said that to me, he just gave me folic acid (that's the only reason to go really it seems) and said 'it's no big disaster is it?' - i was 17 at the time, so no big disaster at all *roll eyes* the dr then said he would send referalls for scans which you get at 15weeks and that midwife referrals would be sorted out too. i actually had to phone up a few times to ask and check up appointments had been made and i also had to make another appointment to see a dr to ask for some advice about general safty advice whilst pregnant - as you can tell my dr isn't the best in the world, at all.

When I went to the doctor he took another test (they just do it routinely at our surgery). I also had to fill out some forms about when my baby was due (can't remember what forms they were) and he told me what my choice of hospitals was. When I told him which hospital I wanted he also did the paperwork for that.
I guess if you see a midwife at your doctor's surgery they can do all of this for you.
