i see my friend and her two children almost everyday. Only yesterday found out that her little boy has got chickenpox. Iv been told that this could be very bad for the baby as I have been in contact with him in the last 5 days. I have had chickenpox once when i was quite young. Can anyone tell me what to do ? should i contact my midwife? x

sorry....not too informative there! I am 2 and a half months pregnant x
contact your GP or midwife. I think they will do a test to see if you are immune to the virus.

It can be very bad if caught in pregnancy - sorry i really dont want to worry you but the first 12 weeks are crucial for the development of your unborn baby so i would phone your midwife or go to the doctors just to be safe as soon as possible! sorry please dont worry too much as you've had it im sure you'll be ok!
i believe it only effects you if you havent had it before, or if you only had it mildly.

Thank you for all of your answers. i will contact my midwife... only can i contact her at any time? x
your midwife is there to be contacted any time of day or night and if she is not avaiable another midwife should answer, if not phone your doctors
i would contact your midwife, i have had chickenpox 3 times so the theory that you can only get once is wrong. better to be safe xx

Thank you all x i went to my doctors and was told i'd be ok but to be on the safe side i'll have to miss my friend for around 5-6 weeks as there is a high chance after her little boy has got rid of the spots her little daughter will catch them as she has never had them either x thanks again
My son was born with a mild case of chicken pox. My oldest son was in daycare with kids that had chicken pox and I would drop him off and pick him up everyday but he never caught it. Apparently, I caught a mild case and did not know it. When I went into labor it passed on to my unborn son and he contracted a mild case of it. He had to stay in the hospital for 10 days on medication. He is now 12 years old and has never contracted it again. I had never had it as a child either.
