Hubby having sympathy pains for me?!
9 Answers
Hi everyone, I am 6 or 7 weeks pregnant (going to docs tomorrow to get it confirmed and all!), and although we're both really excited, I think that me and hubby are also finding it a bit tough. I am completely shattered all the time, even though I am eating a really healthy diet with plenty of iro, etc. I can live with this and know it is normal, and am just looking forward to feeling a bit more pregnant and a bit less tired!
The thing is you would think that he is the one with the crazy hormones, his mood is up and down constantly. It might be that I am more snappy / emotional than usual, or that if I am tired i am not giving him enough attention? It's definitely not that he is unhappy about the pregnancy, but I just wondered if anyone else experienced this with their partners? Did they go all weirdy?
I just think we should be enjoying this time and I simply don't have the energy to whimper to his tiffs and tantrums at the moment.

He obviously isnt suffering from the hormones (well maybe yours) and as you say he isnt unhappy about the pregnancy but have you thought that perhaps his emotions are up and down because of this daunting experience thats ahead of him?
women seem to cope relatively well when faced with this life changing time but men are the providers (by nature) for the family and its quite a shock to suddenly realise that the family will expand and they are responsible for a new life.
They dont have the hormones and the instinct to naturally bond with a child that isnt born yet and its probably a bit scary for him, even though hes overjoyed.
Sit down and have a chat with him, talk things through and you'll probably find out that hes just a bit concerned, for you, for the baby and for the future.
As for the tiredness, i remember how i used to get home from work at 5, eat my tea and be asleep by 7. Id wake up enough to have a bath at 10 and then climb straight into bed and sleep til 8. My social life got put on hold until i got my energy back which was at about 10-12 weeks.

lol girly, youre in the thick of it too though. I can at least (just about) remember 2 years ago with a clear mind :)
Did you sort out the misunderstanding over the text on friday girly?
Natalie, I always recommend the ivillage messageboards to pregnant women, they are great and you can find one for the month you are due and go throuh everything with women at same gestation, through pregnancy, birth and beyond. Im still with my group 2 years on and we have meets and great times together.
I can find the relevant board for you if you know when due. There is also a board for dads-to-be if you want topoint your hubby in that direction.

Awwww, thanks both for your answers ;-)
I do understand what you're saying red, but in my eyes he should be pandering to my every need, not me to his! But then I guess I forget he is merely a man.....
(PS I was only joking about him having sympathy pains in case anyone was wondering, I just realised that does make me look a bit nuts).
Girlygirl, how about we trade, you can come live with me - we can sleep 20hours a day and they can sulk at eachother all day. Then when we get to 10-12 weeks we can swap back.

My poor fella has suffered with sympathy in other ways......he has had the heartburn, feeling poorly and tired etc.........was funny when he was pacing the room and rubbing his tummy when I had a touch of indegestion!
Luckily he doesnt seemed to have suffered my mood swings.......which is a good thing because trust me....I have been evil at times!! lol
Nevermind natalie, not long before the tiredness wears off. Im 11 weeks pregnant now and finally starting to feel like I have a bit more energy in me! Just remember to take a nap whenever you can to help!

My fella was a little difficult at first as he just didn't know what it was I needed, and was worried about me. I found it helped when I sat him down and explained exactly how I was feeling and what I needed him to do (bring me food, let me sleep, don't expect me to do anything)
Don't worry too much, come that 12 week mark (or there abouts) you will both notice a huge difference and you will be blooming all the way to the delivery suite!
good luck
xx
