So sorry to hear this about your baby but there is a lot of help available.
You should still be able to breastfeed of you so desire although it will require some level of commitment from you other wise there are special bottles etc you can use.
Have a look here http://www.clapa.com/faqs.php?topic_id=14 A huge bundle of help all in one place
Best of Luck although I;m sure you won't need it

Hi starwars, I am sorry about the results of your scan and I know it must be a bit of a shock hearing that you were clear on one thing but having another problem. All I can tell you is that in the X-ray department where I work we have a cleft lip/palate clinic where the children are having reconstructive surgery etc, and the results really are amazing. I think a few years ago when they first started operating it was more of a looks thing but now loads of people get involved such as dentists, oral surgeons and plastics to ensure every aspect is covered from the teeth to eating and swallowing.
Be strong, you, I and others know all you ever want is a perfect baby ,but you know what sometimes you don't get it for one reason or another and you just get on with it and you love them just the same. Never forget that you will be baby Harveys first love, and he will love you unconditionally from the moment he sees you, just as you will.
Good Luck and God bless

Can I just tell you a true story which might help? 30 years ago, my cousin was born with a very bad deformity of the mouth and two clefts in her lip. The surgeons were brilliant, and although the poor girl had to undergo several reconstruction ops over the years, when she got married 3 year's ago, you couldn't see that anything'd been wrong with her. Her photos are beautiful, and she now has a child of her own - free of this problem. You'll love your baby whatever happens, so the best of luck with it all.
Thanks taperface i had a phonecall today from cambridge hospital and they were brilliant just the fact that im not alone was such a comfort. They have explained alot and although at first i wasn't sure how i would react I now feel that i just cant wait to hold him i thought i was on my own but i relise i'm not. Its still going to be harder than usual but it just means that he is even more special . They are going to sort it out for me to meet people who are going through or been through the same thing which will really help thanks for telling me your story it really helps to hear from other people.
My little nephew was born with a fairly severe hair lip that caused problems feeding as the top of his mouth was affected too. He had several cosmetic and reconstrucive operations whilst still very young, which, although obviously traumatic for the parents, didn't bother him at all! Four years down the line he has an almost imperceptible scar, and no problems eating, talking etc - if you didn't know he'd had it you couldn't tell. All the best to you and your family, and good luck.
