Bag for hospital

Anyone packed yet?

Well obviously I havent, but then again I havent started my antenatal classes yet either (dont ask, they forgot about me).

So what should I pack? this is what I have come up with so far:

For me

Jammies x 2, slippers, dressing gown.
big knickers x 6 (disposable)
Not so big knickers x 2 or 3
maternity pads
breast pads?
couple of towels
wash bag and all that stuff
antibacterial wipes
clean clothes for going home
litre of vodka
bottled water and snacks
phone topped up.

For baby
baby grows - how many?
vests
socks & hat
Sleep suit thing for bringing her home

Cr@p, thats all I can think of, I am presuming someone will give me a list but do I need to bring nappies, bum cream and all that stuff? I have no idea what I am supposed to supply if anything at all.

All suggestions gratefully accepted and any tips too.

I would forget about the not so big knickers - I don't think you will needing them for the forseeable! Also remember that you will prbably still need maternity sized clothes to go home in!

Another thing to remeber is that if you usually wear contacts, you might want to take your glasses as you may not get much opportunity to change your lenses.

I would bring in socks for the wee one as well as their feet can get cool - maybe that was only my baby though, as i had to cut the feet of his babygros as he was too big for them when he was born!

I bought disposable knickers and they arent very comfy i have to say.
Luckily i also had my old 'apple catcher' pants so wore them instead.

Boo, that was my friend that said that! My mum threatened to strangle my dad during her labour with me. He kept "slapping" a sopping wet sponge on her head in a bid to keep her cool, she found it more irritating than the contractions and so threatened to throttle him. That was of course shortly before he leapt around the room sqealing "It's a boy! It's a boy!" before the midwife advised him that, actually Mr New Dad, that's the umbilical and you have a daughter.

This is the lists I have been given by my midwife, think most of it has been mentioned already though...... cant see vodka anywhere but nevermind, just pour it in an empty water bottle lol

For mum:
Maternity notes, medication, toiletries, bath towel, night wear, dressing gown, slippers, old/disposable underwear (I agree with red on this one, forget the disposable and take old ones), sanitary towels, breast pads (last time round I actually had to start using these before my daughter was even born!), clock/watch, flannel/sponge.

For labour:
Snacks to eat (chinese sounds good to me lol), something to do (puzzles, books, cards), pen (for menu cards etc) camera and batteries, change for car park and telephone (why thats listed for labour I dont know! lol)

For baby:
Nappies, cotton wool/wipes, scratch mitts, hat, socks, sleepsuits, vests.

Some hospitals require you to take in both bottles and milk whereas some provide both for you so check in advance. Also, get the hospital visiting times to let possible visitors know. Most hospitals wont allow flowers now either due to the risk of infection from stagnant water.

I really should get on with getting my own bags packed! lol

How about your diary with numbers of friends & family. Also change for the payphone. In case you cant use your mobile.

All good suggestions, but you don't really need a suitcase full of stuff. The things you said for yourself are fine - plus don't forget a hairbrush/comb - and a mixer for the voddie if you want one!! Lol. You'll need a shawl-blanket for baby, and no more than a couple of babygro's, depending on how long you might be in hospital for. If you need any more, you can get Mr.warpig or someone else to bring the stuff in for you. You more than likely won't be able to use your mobile phone, so take plenty of change for the hospital phone. Best of luck x.

Hiya Warpig. Was thinking about you today, and wondering when baby warpig would be making his/her entrance!

A lot of it depends on how long you stay in hospital for. But adding to your list

Rescue rememdy, ( I got through labour with that!) and the gas and air!

Plenty of snacks, and a magazine to read if you are in for a bit of a stay. Plenty of brick size maternity pads, big knickers. Nice smellies for you. And usual baby grows, nappies etc. Mr W can always bring extras up.

Thank you everyone for all your replies, some of them really made me laugh, may have to consider getting mrwarpig electronically tagged as he does have a tendency to wander off at improtant times (possibly some sort of collar that can emit an electric charge dispensed by me!)

I have compiled a sort of list and will work my way through it and leave any non essentials in the car just incase they turn out to be essential after all.

lol, if you find an electric shock collar please tell me where so that i can use it when Mr CRX is complaining im hurting him during a contraction :)

Pack everything and anything and keep it in the car at all times. I had 2 suitcases and a baby carrier plus all sorts of bags of odds and ends lol. I bought a new car and collected it on my due date and the salesman asked why i hadnt cleared car out before part exing it. I had to explain that i was due that day and couldnt risk it.

Hi Redcrx, maybe I could invent some sort of 'reverse TENS' machine and we could hook them up to it to transfer the pain!

Did you get any joy regarding your BP? Mine is always on the lower end of the scale so cant help I'm afraid.

mines low too at mo, can remember how it feels when high lol. Had no other symptoms at all and havnt had a BH since.

When I packed (many years ago!), I made sandwiches for OH and put them in the freezer! Hubby was running around getting nappies etc before I went home as I felt it was bad luck to get absolutely everything!

TP is right. Dont bu too many nappies etc. Not just because of buying too much before birth but because not all nappies suit all babies. I found Pampers leaked on my son but huggies didnt.

When it comes to nappies, I have a small pack of huggies newborn for the same reason, I too found pampers to be useless last, plus they gave my daughter a rash. Huggies was the only one that was any good. I have noticed that huggies now also do two newborn sizes, one for average size newborns, and one for the slightly bigger ones. Is there really that much difference at that stage?

Ah, this could be a problem as I am pretty sure that mrwarpig will not buy nappies or any other baby/bum related stuff. He is really weird like that (lets hope I am wrong), wont buy condoms or sanitary stuff even if its in a 'big shop' along with all the other groceries - modern man, I think not.

Was thinking of getting one packet of very small nappies and one the next size up for starters and then take it from there, will go for Pampers first and keep fingers crossed for no leakages.

Nappies are a bit different to sanitary wear warpig, Im sure he will by if necessary.

Good idea getting just one pack of each, but baby will go through 8-10 a day at first.

Im gutted that the boots offer of triple points on huggies isnt on any more. Its now double points on all johnsons, boots baby and pampers stuff

lol that has just reminded me of what my boyfriend said when we got our little pack of nappies. Its a pack of 28 and he said well that will do the first month then! Whats scarey is I think he was serious!!!

Hope you are right about the nappies redcrx, when we came back from ireland the car was loaded with baby stuff - pram, car seat, bath, you name it, my mum had bought it. the lady at the ferry asked what we had in the boot (althought it was plain enough to see) and he replied 'just some accoutrements', lol.

Better find my boots card too, loadsa points!

It might be worth putting nipple shields in if you are going to breast feed, I didn't and had sore nipples which bled, Mr H had to go to the shop to buy me some for which I'm not sure he's forgiven me!

I would suggest that you don't need to take everything with you but lay it out on a bed in a spare room at home, clearly label it so you can then get Mr W to bring it in for you.

I'd would put in handcream though - all the antibacterial stuff in the hospital flayed the skin off my hands.
