Going To The Dentist
Is there any reason why a pregnant woman can't have a local injection at the dentist? The reason I'm asking is that my daughter-in-law is 20 weeks pregnant and I recently asked her if she was taking advantage of the free dental care. She was anxious about going in case she needed work to be done and couldn't have an injection. I was puzzled about this but she told me when she was at the dentist prior to being pregnant, and having some treatment, he had asked her twice if she was pregnant before giving her an injection.

My interest wasn't really about the free treatment but why the dentist wasn't prepared to give her a local injection had she been pregnant at the time. I can understand the concern if he had wanted to take an x-ray. I've read of cases where a pregnant woman has needed an operation and has had a general anaesthetic so concern over a local seems misplaced.
