All three of my children weighed 8lb 7.5oz. I do not know if there is any truth in babies getting heavier, but mine were exactly the same!
its just old wives tales!! dont worry, put ur feet up and 'chill' : )
Nope, nat! I was the firstborn and weighed 10lb8oz, my sister and brother both weighed just over 9lb.

Good luck with everything. :)
Hi nat, I have never heard of that before. My mum has had 5 kids. Her 2nd was the heaviest and her 3rd was the lightest, so definately wasnt true in her case.

Congratulations btw :)
Mine went: 1st child 5lb 9 1/2 oz
2nd child 6lb 9oz
3rd child 6lb 14oz

So mine did get heavier with each birth but they were all fairly small still. I don't think you should worry though as there are many factors which determine the birth weight of babies.
mine were both the the same wieght but my first was 17 days late and my second was only 4 days late.

Is there a reason for the birthweight of your first? was it a difficut birth due to weight? Are you going to be checked for diabetes?

hi i was the same my daughter was my first at 8lb 1 1/2 ozs and my son whos now 2 was 10lb 10ozs. it puts me of having anymore incase i do have a bigger baby and cant deliver naturally. its not always true tho that the more you have the bigger they get, just depends on the person! good luck
My OH's sister had a baby in March, and I hope for her sake its not true as baby Samuel came in at 11lb 3! And he was their first born!!
Id also like to say that the size doesnt relate to what the birth will be like either. Taller women tend to have heavier and longer babies.
Bloomin' heck wiggal, 11lb 3oz, dear god thats scary!!!! The piglet only weighs that now and she is near;ly 12 weeks, cant begin to imagine giving birth to something that size, ouch.
I'm sorry but this thread makes me want to cry and even more sure I would like to be steralised asap.

However, Nat I expressed my relief at having small for dates babies. My boys together weighed the same as Whiskey???!! and I am a tall lass. Yet, I know 5 footers who have had and delivered 10lb babies naturally.

10lb isn't an uncommon size these days. I expect you will be offered some more scans towards the end of your pregnancy. Definitely at 32 weeks, and possibly again at 36! YOu have to think, its only really padding, so as long as you birth a head, which you have done already, you should be able to deliver bigger babies. SO my relief at having small babies makes no difference, if you can deliver a 5lber you can deliver an 8lber.

Thanx for all your replies ladies, you have definetly eased my mind!! Consultant has booked me in for 2 more scans at 32 and 36 weeks and is testing me for diabetes at 28wks!!
