i work nights but have recently found out that i am pregnant and have asked to change to days as i feel unwell when working nights all the time. i have had 3 miscarriages and feel it is unsafe for myself and my unborn child to keep working nights. i have had to have a few days of sick due to morning sickness, which i tend to have 24 - 7, and im suffering from excessive tiredness and stomach problems. have also been told by a college that the boss was asking how to get rid of a pregnant member of staff. i could really do with some advice or a good site that has info on it.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.my goodness stick to your guns, your employer cannot under any circumstances get rid of you, and they should be f=doing a health and safety in pregnancy report through-out your pregnancy from the start, ask if they have done this, if they havnt demand that they do and if they refuse to put you on days see your gp and midwife to have aletter done to say you are deemed unfit to work nights given your history and they must adhere to this. dont back down as bad a you may feel, i went to hell and back when i was pregnant with my 2nd, my boss hated me anyway moreso when i told her i was preg,
had me in on disciplinaries for the time i had to take due to sickness, (i only had to move and vomited) and as it was a care home still had me lifting and working alone in a nursing wing, disgracful is only one of the words i will type to say how i feel bout them now! i had to start maternity early on orders of my midwife (10wks) as i was so big and she thought i might go early, specially with the work i was doing, my son was 8 days late and weighed 10lb 10ozs.
moral of the story dont let them treat you like dirt cos they will becos your pregnant and it messes up their rotas etc

thankyou naflharrison. i have stuck to my guns but its hard. they have said i have the worst attendence.. but for a while there i was feeling sick 24-7, ive since had alot of pain whist at work, because i was getting yelled at by a drunk customer and had to stand most of the 8 hrs i was there. plus i saw a mouse running along a light fixture behind me. gross....
ojread2 to answer your Q. i work in a 24 hr petrol station, come super market and off license. an dont sit or have any breaks while at work. we get to smoke 2 cigs a shift, and when finshed a cig get straight back on till

OJ read is misguided, because of your sleep needs etc and evidence that babies don't develop as well in mothers who keep a night shift, risk assessments should change your hours. This means no working before 7 am or after 10 pm. Ask your midwife for a certificate saying you cannot work night shifts and then your employer has to give you day shifts or he has to suspend you on full pay.
Im not sure what the comparison of risks of working nights are to cigarette breaks though, or were you joking?
