Red, I cannot think of anything worse. At my 36week appt my midwife said not to forget to take a mirror with me so I could see the moment I crowned, I asked her why the hell I would want to see what was going on, surely it was bad enough that I would be feeling it?! LOL
Psy, thankfully, as I gave birth to Emilia in theatre I didn't know the placenta had come out and didn't see it, although I did give permission for them to use it for stem cell research. Whilst my legs were in stirrups and various people were busying themselves goal end and my fella was cooing over the baby (I still hadn't seen her at this point because I couldn't sit up!), I asked the consultant if I was now delivering the placenta, she said "Oh no dear, that's done. We're stitching you up now!". Result for me, but until Red posted that link I hadn't never seen a real placenta properly.
Enormous sun dried tomatoes spring to mind.

they cant suffocate because they dont breath. Apparently if it takes a while to birth the body after head has been born they can take a breath, fill their lungs and expand. ooooouuuuuuuccccccchhhhhhhh!
Natalie, ive heard of them taking some for research and you can also store the stem cells if you want.
