Hi All

So ive been going to my regular midwife appointments and each time I do a urine test they come back positive. I have also been experiencing varying degrees of pain in my lower adomen (for those who have kids the pain gets so bad some times i can only liken it to labour pains at approx 5 cmms!!!).

The last 2 samples (out of 4 positives) have been sent to the hospital for further investigation but then they come back with 'no abnormal growth - no action'.

Having said all of that the Dr is still worried because the levels of white blood cells (or leuks) is very very high. Normal is 40 my last count was 349???

Im starting to worry because Ive read that it could be a kidney infection which could harm my unborn child????? however the Dr, although concerned, isnt rushing for answers and ive been like this for 4 weeks?

help please someone.

Thanks

Lucyx

p.s I am 22 weeks and have a detailed scan on Thursday.

ok Lucy, i cant recall the results i had but i kept getting high levels of Leukocytes in my urine samples on my second pregnancy, and every time they sent it for testing it came back with no growths detected. The only time i had growths they didnt advise me til all symptoms had gone (for that sample only i had some pain and wee infection).

The pregnancy before that I had high white blood cell counts throughout my pregnancy but in blood samples only. There was never any reason for this found but again it was miles outside the guidelines for pregnancy.

Speak to your GP and midwife again and demand an answer, but I can tell you that neither of my children seem to have been affected in any way if i did have an infection.

I hope you get answers soon
Hi, I also had a high count of white blood cells when I took my sample yesterday. The doc sent it to the lab but not heard anything since. I'm the worlds worst worrier so I made the doc go into detail bout what this can mean. She said that because the bladder rarely fully empties, due to the uterus squashing it, this means that the urine sample is possibly old and has been in your bladder for a long time and has accumulated old WBC's. She said it shouldnt be anything to worry about but to watch for back pain which can mean infection, which would be easily treatable with some anti b's. I think the doctors and midwives sometimes forget that we dont all understand the medical jargon they use so I always try to get them to explain more fully.
