Induced or a C-section
10 Answers
Going to see the Doctor on Thursday where they are now giving me a choice of what to have. My first thought was to op for the section as at least its over with and theres no waiting for days, or is this a cop out? I don't fancy trying for a few days myself and then end up with a section anyway. I haven't had an easy time getting here so it sounds selfish. What would you do?

It might be worth remembering that C-sections have a significantly longer recovery time, and you are unable to drive and do similar things for several weeks.
I was induced, but quite early into the labour had to be taken for a C-section, which was done under general aneasthetic, so I was groggy for a few days.
Whatever you decide to do, I hope everything goes well!! Good luck!!

hi having never had a section i cant comment but people i know that have been induced give different reports! some say its awful and others have had very quick labours due to the induction. its really your choice but depends how strongly you feel about wanting to give birth properly, they can let you stay in labour as long as you are well and the baby is not finding it difficult after a long time. i had a 23 hr labour with my daughter who weighed in at 8lb 1oz and a 4 hr labour with my son who was 10lb 10ozs, both labours started themselves and my sons labour was drug free. they can do things to quicken it up but it not the end of the world to need a section. at the end of the day you have a beautiful baby at the end of it so it doesnt matter how they are born.
firstly, congratulations.. sounds like a special baby!
secondly, don't get too hung up on this your baby will arrive safely and given the choice, go for the least stressful one.
I'm petite and "naturally" delivered 2 huge babies (one with forceps after 38 hrs) and can honestly say I would have had a c-sect of it was offered.. but I never had one, so who knows?
it's not a time for feeling selfish, you'll have your treasured baby soon.. woo hoo!

hi ILS
i would say that an induction would be better but only if cervix is favourable. If its still closed and posterior and babys high then it may be heavy going. If baby and cervix good then it should start you off into a normal labour.
To find this out then your consultant will need to do an internal but if being induced and internal would be required anyway.

I was induced and then had to have a C section anyway. It would have been better not to have been induced and the recovery from the C section would have been a lot quicker if I had not had to go about 14 hours in induced labour beforehand. (They knew that I would probably have to have a section before all this)
As you have health problems and this will be your only child I would opt for the C section and minimise the stress to yourself and your baby.

I've had two rushed C-sections and they aren't the nicest of things to go through.
If I was to have the choice like you, i would have elected for a C-section so things didn't need to be such a panic and you can rest your mind on whats happening to you, but bare in mind the recovery is longer!
Good luck deciding and I would like to say that you are by no means being selfish, you are thinking about you and baby's best interest and thats what mums do!
