i just posted this and it never appeared?? so apologies if it turns up again!!

just wondering the reason as to why you dont eat nuts during pregnancy?

i first thought it was just peanuts but then my midwife tells me to eat no nuts at all,

is it because the baby may have a nut alergy or is it because eating nuts during pregnancy can cause the baby to develop an alergy??

any ideas? x

I was told that it was only peanuts and that was only if you or your partner had nut allergy, or asthma or eczema?

really? my midwife said NO NUTS,

i am really craving peanut butter :o(

well me and my partner have no alergies, hmmmmm interesting :o)
i was told dont eat nuts if any close relative is allergic to nuts,

I have asthma and ecsema and yet i wasnt told not to eat them. I didnt go ott but did have peanut butter and snickers bars during both my pregnancies.

well in my first i only remember avoiding peanuts, but when i went to see the midwife she was pretty intent that i was to have no nuts at all,

like i say im dying for some peanut butter on toast!! omg!!
"Serious allergies to nuts and nut products and some seeds affect about 1 to 2% of people in the UK. Your baby may be at higher risk of developing a nut allergy if you, the baby's father, brothers or sisters have certain allergic conditions such as hayfever, asthma and/or eczema.

If your baby is in this higher-risk group, you may wish to avoid eating peanuts and peanut products when you're pregnant and breastfeeding."

and this http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7505682.stm suggests that eating peanuts causes higher risk of asthma rather than a peanut allergy.
I hate what I am about to say but I will say it anyway.

I ate all nuts throughout my pregnancy, and often peanut butter on toast, and my little girl seems fine. She's only six months but as yet hasn't shown any signs of allergies or conditions.

(The bit I hate is when people say ".....and mine is alright" usually in relation to smoking or drinking, "I smoked through all of my pregnancies and mine are alright" not that I have anything against smokers, pregnant smokers or smoking mothers you understand just that fricking statement!)

thanks natalie - well i think ill avoid just in case, unless the caraving gets that bad!!
i guess i only want it because i cant have it lol

hello!
My midwife said exactly the same as redcrx and Natalie's! I have to say most of the books say its quite healthy to have other nuts and seeds because of the omega 3, oils etc...
Its all about moderation I reckon, the more you have the greater the risk. But if it makes you worry or feel guilty then its not worth it.

Personally I didnt give up anything when I was pregnant, ate what I wanted when I wanted.

Put on three stone lol
