im not saying all mums will do that

but its like the �500 you get after the baby is born, certain people abuse this and spend the money on drugs or other stuff rather than the baby

not everyone gets �500 after the birth. Thats a surestart grant.

But every mother gets child benefit, they dont all go and blow that on drugs.

I get your point, but come on, the majority will be using it for exactly whats its intended for, to help them prepare for a child and to support that child.

i think you may be suprised by how many people dont spend it on the baby,

why not give the mothers vouchers for places like mothercare or give them a �50 nappy voucher that can be used at any supermarket

ive often thought that vouchers might be a better idea.

BUT mothercare are expensive, and thatd be a nice little earner for one company, pushing independants aside.

any parent who wouldnt spend the money on their child and their wellbeing is easily going to find someone who'll take the vouchers of their hands for cash.

that is true but it makes it that bit harder for them,

i recall reading an article about these maternity grants last year and it focused on the women who were getting pregnant getting their grant and then giving the child up for adoption,

thats a very very very very small minority dan. Having had 2 children i can say itd be one very strange woman who went through pregnancy and giving up a child for �500.

anyway, thats another discussion entirely. I only posted on here to let those AB mums-to-be know about the payment.

I have looked onto that website and it says that mums to be will only get 190 pounds. And not 210.
