Need a special way to tell my partner he is going to be a daddy
7 Answers
Hi, I found out today that I am pregnant. I suspect its very early, bout 2 - 3 weeks. My partner and I have been trying for almost exactly a year. I would like some ideas on a really sweet way of telling him, rather than just saying it.
Ive thought of buying little booties or socks and putting them in a card, any other ideas.
Im still in a state of shock, I had suspected for about a week that I was pregnant but was scared to believe it. My kids are 13 and 12 and his are 18 and 9 so it will be a shock to all of our systems. I gave a urine sample into the doc today but couldnt resist doing a home test too which immediately showed as positive...woohoo..
Any advice on what happens next, when will i get scanned etc and will I be under extra scrutiny due to my age..i am 37, will be 38 by the time the baby gets here..
Im finding this all a bit surreal, writing about "the Baby". Im so excited...

I cant offer any advice on telling him, i never managed to keep a secret with my partner and blurted it out as soon as i tested lol
As for the care youll receive itll depend on the area you are in.
usually a 12 week scan and a 20 week scan are given. The 12 week scan MAY be a nuchal scan but not all aras have this.
a nuchal scan measures the nuchal fold at back of babys neck which can give an indication of whether there is a chance of Downs syndrome. This indicator may then suggest that further tests are required.
you get a 16 week blood test which also checks for risk of downs.
you can go privately and get a combined blood and nuchal test which could give a better indication of risk (usually costs about 150). I did this as my age alone gave a risk of 1 in 250 but my combined tests came back at 1 in 4000+.
Other than that, unless there are any concerns you will be seen by a midwife at all the usually appoitments and wont need to see consultants (unless you had previous complications)

How about buying a babys plate and bottle and setting an extra place for dinner/tea?
I was lucky in that I had a positive test on Father's Day. I did the test while he was still asleep, went and woke him, gave him the test and said Happy Father's Day. I think I shouldve given him more chance to wake up though because he said what am I looking at? lol

Hi everyone, well, he knows now. I got a little pair of cute bootees. Asked him to come to my house before returning to work this morning after he ahd been out on an errand. He was not expecting it at all.
I asked him to put out his hand and close his eyes and placed the bootees in his hand. He just looked blankley for a few seconds, placed them on the table then said, "your not are You?.". His face was a picture, then I showed him both positive tests and a note from my doctors surgery regarding when Id see the midwife etc.
It was brilliant, he is really happy. We have both been really wanting this. We have yet to make time to discuss when we tell family etc, however we have both agreed to tell one close friend each, as he said he just couldnt possibly keep it to himself and would burst otherwise. God love him eh..
He staggered off to work at 10.30am in stunned silence but by the time I saw him again at 4pm he was beaming and grinning from ear to ear. I suspect he may have told several of his workmates too, although he wont admit that, lol, because they were all exceptionally nice to me, they always are but Im sure i detected a wee bit extra enthusiasm from them today.
Its all very exciting, I lay awake until about 3.30am last night just thinking about the situation and repeating to myself, "the Baby"...and constantly looking at the test wands again...
Anyway, thank you to everyone for your messages and support. I plan on taking it easy for the duration and just concentrate on my Open Uni stuff and keeping fit and healthy.
