i had a miscarriage 7 weeks ago, when i went for the follow up scan 6 weeks ago the nurse said everything looked fine in there and i should have a period in the next 3/4 weeks.. i still havent had one.. should i be worried? i want to start trying again but ive been advised to wait for my period then start after that .. although we've not been using any protection, could i be pregnant again so soon? i dont know what to think.. my periods have always been irregular anyway, can doctors prescribe anything to regulate periods? sorry for all these questions! :0)

thanks in advance.

so have you been having unprotected intercourse since the miscarriage? your post doesnt seem to clear.

if you have then it is possible that you could be pregnant again, a test will tell you.

also the stress that you are under and the upset could also cause your period to be late and you also say that youve never been regular so it may just be thats its late.
I was told the same thing when I went for my scan after miscarrying. I didn't actually have a period until 7wks later, but then caught again straight after that. I am now 27wks gone. It is possible you could be pregnant as you are very fertile straight after miscarriage. Good luck, I hope it all works out for you.

sorry i wasnt clear.. there are a lot of questions on there as well...
we have been having unprotected sex since the miscarriage yes.

if dont have a period in the next couple of months counl my GP prescribe anything? is there and doctors on here?? :0)

thanks bobby, me too! :0)
have you taken a pregnancy test? the reason doctors advise that you refrain from unprotected sex until you have a period is so that you will know when your LMP was and can count weeks from there.

im not sure what your GP can do about irregular periods unless there is a reason for them.

i havent taken a test, maybe i should then.. its going to sound so weird but im so frightened to take one! i want a baby so much but cant bare the thought of having another miscarriage! it was awful.. :0(

i dont think there is anything wrong.. doc said my ovaries and tubes look good..! just irregular hormones or something!
I never experienced a loss, but can imagine why you dont want to face a test but if you have been having unprotected sex then theres the chance that you may be and surely youd want to know if you are?

how about waiting a week and then testing if your period hasnt arrived?
Question Author
yeah i would want to know.. ok, i'll wait a week and do a test.. :0)
i'll just be so disapointed if its negative, but frightened to death if it's positive! i cant win! hehe..
youre right, its not gonna be easy either way.

I hope it all works out for you x
Hi Fiona

I lost 2 babies through miscarriage last year and I was told the main reason that they tell you to wait (physically) is so it is easier to work out your due dates. As bobbybob said, I have also been told you are more fertile following miscarriage so if you have been having unprotected sex, there is chance. I know how difficult it is following a miscarriage - you don't want to get your hopes up and if you are, you are really worried anyway, but I hope you take some comfort in the fact I am now 28 weeks pregnant and I didn't have a period after my last miscarriage. Good luck with everything
