Membrane Sweep
As mentioned in previous posts in this section, I'm having a Sweep tomorrow. I know the Midwife will use a finger to circle my cervix, to separate the membranes, which should start Labour within 48 hours.
What I'd like to know is.
1) Is it going to be painful
2) Will she use a Speculum to open Vagina
3) My Cervix naturally tilts down, will this be a problem
4) If you've had one, what did you think or feel
Thanks

1-not painful, more uncomfortable
2-No, well I didn't anyway- he just slapped on the rubber gloves, lubed up and poked away
3- Pass no idea!
4- slightrly embarrassed, uncomfortable, then glad it was over!
In all honesty Velvetee, its over that quickly, you'll barely have time for it to sink in what just happened to you. Don't worry.
and lastly...good luck!!! :-)

Hi Velvetee
Still hanging about then is he??! Try not to worry too much about the sweep - I had 2 sweeps with baby Picky, and although neither worked (sorry!) it does for some! It didn't hurt for me, I just found it embarrassing (although after actually giving birth it was nothing I could've probably backflipped naked through Bolton town centre and not batted an eyelid after the actual birth!). If you can, try and relax - the little fella might be here this time tomorrow - how exciting is that!
Let us know how you get on, be thinking of you

In answer to your reply to squads reply! I was terrified of birth I actually told my hubby I was scared I was going to die during it! I enjoyed my birth all 29 hours of it! It is sore but not so that you can't cope, there are plenty pain relief options and the time really flys by. Enjoy your last few days being pregnant, Its after the birth the fun begins.
Thanks everyone for the info. I'm pretty scared of giving birth too Aggie, but as so many people have said to me, women have been giving birth for centuries and we're built for it.
I think things will happen pretty soon, I woke up this morning with period like pains and pains in my left hip. Went to the Cinema earlier and was getting frequent, more intense Braxton Hicks's.
The bonus is, now he's late, he'll be born a Cancerian, still haven't decided on a name though. Partner likes Marco and William, I quite like Zachary, Taran, Alex or Reuben. Suggestions welcomed.

1) its uncomfortable
2) no
3) dont no
4) it was pleasant, and the midwife who did my first was so gentle that nothing happened. With my second it was the registrar who did it and he was a lot rougher, did the trick though, 2 days of bleeding, day 3 nothing and went into labour that night.
You may find it a problem if you have got SPD because of the way youll be positioned

Hi all,
I had my Sweep earlier, it was quick and a little painful. The Midwife said my Cervix wasn't very favourable and did some sort of scoring, apparently the higher the score out of 10 the better, mine was only 2.
Anyway, I'm not confident anything will happen, so I'm booked in for an Induction this Friday. Partner said the baby is like me, too laid back aand lazy, hence him not wanting to come out.
