Sizing for a Toddler's Knitting Pattern

I'd like to knit a cardigan for my grandson who is, at the moment, one-year old. Obviously I'd like to make it for next winter when he will be 18-24 months. Problem is, it's been so long since I've knitted anything for a toddler I'm not sure of sizes as most of the patterns seem to be in cms/ins and not age groups. Could someone kindly supply me with the sizings that I should be looking for?

can't help you with how to get the correct sizes but surely if you go into a wool/knitting shop the redoubtable ladies in there will give you dome advice? - wish everyone stuck to 'old money' - hate these new sizings too

Thanks for the advice. I do have some patterns already but not sure what size to choose so it looks like I will have to find a knitting shop - not an easy task where I live in London as all the old fashioned craft shops seem to have disappeared!

Have you tried a conversion site on the internet to translate cms into inches? It will give you some ideas to work from. Bring back the old days I say!

It's not converting the cms to inches, I can do that. It's just knowing what cms/inches equate to fit a 18-24 months old. Thanks for answering though.

I,m not sure but I think if you looked at a department store's website for children's clothes it would give you the chest sizes along with ages
