I used one in hospital for the birth of my first child, this was however over 20 years ago. I found it to be a very odd sensation and did give me something other than the contractions to focus on, however I can't say that it helped me as my labour was not long enough (just over 3 hours). I would say give it a try if you have a unit available, and good luck with baby no. 2
I used one for when I was in labour with my 2nd child, 4 years ago. Sat at home, playing on Playstation with the family whilst the Tens Machine was attached - I absolutely loved the sensation. It was so successful for me for removing pain that I very nearly ended up having my daughter at home because I wasn't particularly aware of how far into the labour I was. She was born within 30 mins - so for me it was extremely successful.

I hired one from Boots the Chemist for a very reasonable price. I hope this helps and all the very best to you.x

Thanks very much guys xx
lyla,
if you're pregnant, using a TENS machine is not advisable! http://www.patient.co...lth/TENS-Machines.htm
Quassia, my hospital's maternity unit loaned them out to women about to give birth! They've been used for a long time now as pain relief for labour pains - personally I didn't find it helped mind you, but they were recommended by the midwives.
just a thought.....

I was in the chemist last week and their own radio station was advertising the tens machine, but gave the proviso that it should not be used during pregnancy or childbirth.
there are 2 types -the ones used for general pain relief and the maternity ones
I would advise turning into a cat before giving birth. I have never seen a cat go into hospital before having kittens and have never seen one use a TENS machine.

Hope this answer helps.
^^^^ i really really like that advice :)
i used one with my first. it did help in some way and even when i was getting whisked off to theater i was still clinging onto it.

i think it may have been more a distraction that stopping the paid but i would use one again
