My little boy was prescribed antibiotics last night and he's never had this particular one before (penicillin bright orange very runny) Well he screamed the place down but I got a dose down him last night but this morning it took a good few minutes then he gagged and gagged and threw up the whole lot along with the milk I had just got down him. He now wont even take calpol. He has always previously been so good at taking any kind, help! Oh and he wont eat anything either (not even a biscuit) so I cant put it in food.

It sounds a bit extreme, but like your child, my daughter was off her food and desperately in need of taking her anti-biotics, she got well in no time - I hope the same for you
Oh!....another of my thread's removed.
Ed+team.....I wasn't really suggesting that he should have been "put down"....it was a light hearted comment with a ;-) at the end.
I know tigwig well and have given her advice over many months and knew how she would take the remark.
This site could do with a touch of humility and sense of humour.

Yes Sqad I did know you were joking!
Well Ive tried everything now yoghurt and juice but nothing works. If I force it down he gags til he is sick. Spoke to doc and he said there is no alternative and he needs it. What am I supposed to do?
Will a throat infection get better without them? He is a lot brighter this aft in himself and is eating breadsticks and yoghurt (just not the ones with med in!) He doesnt have a temp anymore either. What do you think Sqad?

Good I'm glad you said that because I've just decided not to give him it. When I googled throat infections it said antibiotics could actually be more harmful and they are rarely needed except in very severe cases.
It was a nurse who made the decision and I think it was because his temp was so high (which was my fault for leaving ibuprofen at home). She said his ears and throat were a bit pink thats all.

I was torn yesterday anne as I cant see the point of forcing it down him when it makes him immediately sick so he's had no more. He has however improved today and is starting to eat a little again so I hope he's on his way to recovering. If not I am going to tell doc that I think he's allergic to penicillin and that he has to have something else. I myself was thought to be allergic (came out in rash) so I'm never given it.
