I had an operation on my shoulder in September and it just doesnt seem to be getting any better. I am still on painkillers at night and not sleeping with the discomfort.
I have just had my 5th session of acupuncture and it seem to help for a couple of days each time but then the pain etc comes back. I am only having this treatment (at the hospital) every 2 weeks and I just wondered if I shoud be having it more frequently? How many can you have and does anyone know if it acually works? :-)

Thanks

Husband had accupuncture for sciatica on NHS, treatment was weekly, lasted longer each treatment. Physio says cannot guarantee it will not come back, but still no problems after 3 months
I had acupuncture once a week when my arthritus started - it helps but I was at the start of a really bad flare up, like you a few days releif was all I got. you dont say what the op was for maybe a steriod jab would help too.

Thanks.....nannybooby I had inpringement syndrome and had a subacromial decompression plus they did 2 other things too, which I wasnt expecting! Had steriod jabs to try to resolve the problem before the op but unfortunately didnt help! Not been offered them again! Just acupuncture, physio and pool therapy!
I too had it for sciatica about 2 years ago. I had it twice a week and so far the sciatica hasn't returned.
I hope you start to feel a bit more comfortable soon :)
Sorry your not feeling too great..

Is there a local pain clinic you could
Go to!? I dont know what goes on but ive just heard from patients in immense pain who really found the clinic usefull xx
oh babe you sound really fed up ! Hang in there you seem to be getting a fair amount of treatment phsio and the pool will help as will the acupuncture but it is baby steps all the time to a recovery. If the painkillers arent doing their job go back to your gp and ask for something else. Why are you only getting them for the night time ?
Have you tried an osteopath? I swear by them so long as they are good ie you only need one session or at the most two.

Thanks for your replies :-) I'm back at the hospital to see the consultant later in the week so I'll see what he has to say!
Nannybooby.....I have got painkillers to take during the day but I'm trying not too, just stick to paracetamol - the pain and discomfort is worse at night :-( as no matter what I do I always end up lying on my sore shoulder!
