For drinking and driving I would.
yes . She could kill someone
No question. Yes.
yes if she kills someone how would you feel
Yes.

She is a danger to herself, too.

you are all so right...just such a tough call
Don't expect her to change from it though. Alcoholics are unbelievibly selfish people.
Question Author
yes, she is, thats been proved already
I would report a drink driver and I have done so. No problem at all.
What if she hit a child?
Getting stopped by the police could be the reality check she needs. She would no doubt be dealt with by the courts, but I'm sure once they were aware she had a drink problem, they may offer some support towards rehab?

So yes, definitely shop her.

Thank you..... Its been an ongoing problem for as long as I can remember. We have tried doctors, al anon, aa, apas, crisis teams, private rehab, medication (clordiazapoxide). We have tried all emotions love, hatred, anger and extreme anger, resentment, understaning, ignorance, sympathy...everything....Just dont know what else to do? she gets periods of short lived sobriety where she bounces back, starts eating again and looking and feeling absolutely fantastic....

its like your beating your head against a brick wall....Affecting a whole entire family from her parents aged 87, to my dad with heart cond aged 65, to me and my brother and my children...Its affecting everybody

I know dads been in touch wih al anona nd they have helped to a degree...I know someone cant be forced to stop....dr's have told her she will die...she has had cancer twice, bleeding ulcer, pancreatitis, kidney stones, gall bladder...if that wont stop you what can?
My heart goes out to you sasserina, I can't imagine - thankfully I've never had to deal with it in close knit family. It sounds like you've tried everything, but try not to give up hope that one day she may overcome her illness & addiction.
It might sound cruel Sass but sometimes you just have to give up fighting a losing battle and concentrate on your own life.

Unforutnately that's what we were forced to do with our Mum after what sounds like a similar level of alcoholism to you. She now has loose contact with one of her 7 children and 8 grandchildren. I now simply wait for the call to tell me she's managed to drink herself to death but I don't feel guilty. If you've tried there is no more you can do. It's down to her only.
Very difficult but yes I would. I have a "friend" who also drinks and drives, with her children in the car as well!
*to your Mum's alocolism, not yours.
I agree with evian, you have been through the mill, she has to be the one to decide to change, I would get on with my life if I were you. if she decides to change thats great but if she doesnt then at least you have not wasted more years trying in vein to make her realise how much she is hurting you all.

and yes I would shop her for drink driving.
Sasserina - What if the child she killed was yours? What if the man she killed was your husband? Would you feel better if it was someone elses child or husband?

You must tell the police.
