My new grandaughter was born weighing just over 6lb in April. She got weighed today and is just over 11lb. Isnt that a lot - to have almost doubled her weight in just over 8 weeks?

Normal I would say.
in the red book, it shows you the growth line that's expected from the birth weight, When i get a spare 5 mins, i'll go and look
Sorry, when I saw the title I had this picture in my head of a baby pumping iron.......there's never a darkened room around when you need one

lol nungate.

Just seemed a lot to me - and they said on the phone that baby has got all chubby. Just cant remember if that is typical or not
If she'd say gone 8 weeks overdue you kinda expect her to give birth to an 11 pounder.
It's a good sign Smow, and normal. Hope she is doing well x

if she'd gone 8 weeks over she would have given birth to an elephant!

Am going to go and spend the day with her on Monday so will see the little chubby for myself : )
i still can't find my red book. However, it's not unusual (i hope) for babies to skip centiles too - for example my 11 week old was on the 12th centile for weight, then put on 1 pound in 10 days and skipped to the 25th!
Also, if they are weighed just after they are fed, or if they havent had a poo, it can seem more and because it's such little amounts, it seems a lot
I think the time to start worrying would be if she was not putting on any weight or was losing some.

Oi, don't go calling me an elephant!!!

I can't help it if I came out at 11lb 3oz, not as big as my brother though he was 12lb 4oz.

A set of twins I know found it really hard to get their head around the fact that I weight more than the two of them combined!

11 lb 3?? Jesus lol
It must have been all the Guinness she drank when carrying me!
just looked at the chart - expected would be about 4.3 kg (but it depends on how much over 6 lb she was AND how many actual days over 8 weeks!)
Question Author
She was born 3 wks early, on 15th April weighing 6lb 2, so its actually more than 8 wks.
isn't that 11 weeks??
Question Author
umm, I think its 10, either way i was a tad out lol.
well time does go fast, that's for sure!
Shes between her 50th and 70th centinile line so bang on for birth weight and growth sounds a lovely little thing. I just checked my little ones red book had it to hand for a change.
