Helloooo everyone!

Thinking of re-locating after Xmas with the other half and Leeds is starting to be a definate possibility but neither of us has had a chance to do much research on the area and I thought I'd ask to see if anyone actually lives there or holidays on the outskirts and can give me an idea from first hand experience?
We'll probably look at a quieter part outside the main hussle and bustle so if anyone has any ideas on that score that would be great too!! :) x

With all due respect- if you're thinking of moving there i'd make the time to research it!

As good as the folk of AB Land are, and they are, they can't possibly gauge whether the area's what you're looking for, what you'll like and won't like, everyone's different with their expectations.

Is it really that hard to find a little time to find something out that important to you for yourself?

For god's sake Boo... OFCOURSE we're gonna B****Y research it!!!
I was only asking for some first hand OPINIONS.... would anyone in their right mind actually make a life changing decision based on what people on AB say?!

Once again, people on AB not reading the question as its supposed to be read and just ANSWERING it rather than making random presumptions !!

I despair for AB! its not actually an 'Answerbank' anymore when people can't just answer a simple question!

And the fact that an answer has been removed from my question says it all really... silly silly people....
I think that the answer that has been removed is most likely to have been spam.

I am no help to you in your actual question though. ;-)
Well the football teams crap !
Friends moved to Chapel Allerton a few years ago and love it. Not in the city but close enough. A thriving community with lots going on...almost like a village. I visit often.....next week in fact and I love the city and the area.
That's all I can tell you I'm afraid. Good luck.
Two things spring to mind - your budget and the location where you will work. House prices vary wildly from area to area. The rush hour traffic is also horrendous. When I lived there I worked shifts and at night the journey into the city centre would take me ten minutes. If I was starting work at 9am the journey took 2 hours.

Hey you!
LOL. ^^^^
Hi, clipcop - long time, no speak :)

Try putting a shout out for askyourgran - that is her area and the lady is nobody's fool. I believe she may have been to a pub, once, even ...
When we moved here to Hereford from Ayelsbury everything was sorted out and the pub bought before I even visited. Didn't see the house himself had rented until the day we moved in.
"your like oss muck, allus int road" Leeds publican quotation for closing time

Look a little further North, near 'arrogate or Ripon .....or towards Nidderdale and Pateley Bridge.
ladybirder has connections too, I believe.

I would go a little further out as it pays out in spades on days off, the countryside is beautiful, good pubs, farm shops and actually really decent people who "look after their own" so vibrant communities - if "yer prepared t' mook in."
(better schools too)
There really is no need to swear at Boo; you ask a question on a public site, you need to expect every possible answer.

Boo's was only pointing out the obviously difficulty in answering such a general question. No idea if you're looking to bring up a family there, retire there, watch the ballet or get down in the hood.
Alwoodley....nice little area, Google it and see what you think.
Sqad is right Alwoodly is a nice area. It depends largely on your budget, areas vary in price. Gness is right too Chapel Allerton is Ok, busy with a mix of people living there with shops bars and restaurants a nice community there, the same as Roundhay (popular park). North Leeds: Adel, Shadwell and Bramhope are on the outskirts. Harrogate is expensive and a long journey if you need to commute to Leeds every day. To the West is Guiseley and Rawdon. Rush hour traffic is I suppose like any other City. Areas to avoid would be Chapeltown, Harehills, Belle Isle, Beeston, Hunslet. Leeds City itself is OK Harvy Nicks and all the usual Stores. There are lots of refurbished warehouses for City apartment living by the River Aire or overlooking the Leeds/Liverpool Canal. Remember it will be more expensive on the outskirts.

Ah great answers!! Thank You all very much!!! It's just so much better to get peoples views as the estate agents won't really tell you which areas are classed as a bit rough etc and that was one thing I'm a bit worried about.

I come from a Village in Northumberland so I'm very keen to find the same kind of community and countryside is VERY important to me, Its just so lovely to have it on your doorstep to enjoy a nice sunny weekend isn't it?!

Thanks again everyone, exactly what I was looking for!! :) x
Add Seacroft to the places to avoid. AYG has just about nailed it. North Leeds is the way to go, and I used to commute from Pateley Bridge to Leeds, to be in Leeds for 9.45 and it took me about 55 minutes. There is somewhere else to avoid in east Leeds, think it begins with H. Had my car stolen from outside my work and it ended up burned out in this place I can't remember. I do remember that the police went straight there when I reported it missing. They knew exactly where to find it. Help? Harrogate, Pateley Bridge, Ilkley all lovely with Otley, Guiseley all fine. But if it has to be Leeds, defo north.
