She was a great mum when we were little. She became detached when we got older and formed our own opinions. I think it was a lack of confidence on her behalf. My Sister managed to get the bond back, I never have, sadly.

Always thinks she is right, good at fibbing, in bed a lot. Can never forgive her for attempting to take her own life without thinking of me, I was only 5 when she did, still remember waiting at the school gates for her. We have no bond visit her once a week, out of duty.

She's a good person, very self centred and selfish but there's no actual malice in her. She is very religious and I am not which causes problems as her being religious is no skin off my nose but she very much dislikes me being an atheist.

I don't think we would be friends if we were not mother and daughter but would have a healthy respect for each other. I would be friends with my dad and sisters if we were not related.

Some of these comments make my Mum sound like a saint. She does have faults, but probably less than I have!

My mom and I argued a lot when I was in my youth, but I loved her immensely and think about her every day.

Not as strict as my dad was but still quite strict. We always rowed and still have little arguments here and there. She's very critical of my cooking. But like my dad still love her to bits. They are both wonderful with Little Tiggs.

My mother delighted in making me miserable by putting me down and going on and on about my biological father. Nothing I did was ever good enough. According to her I was too 'selfish' to have children and the I had too many 'your house is like an orphanage'. When she realised she was going to die (all very sudden when she was 61) she rang me up to tell me she had written me out of her will (not that I wanted anything, she just wanted to put the final nail in the coffin so to speak). I feel sorry for my dad and siblings that they have lost her but I feel something akin to a sense of relief.

Blimey, sounds like some mums are as bad as the dads on the other thread.

I was a little git when I was a kid, I used to lock her out of the house if she went out to hang out washing, light her cigs when she wasn't looking, pulled a pillow case over her head when she was driving on the motorway. All that before I was 10!
She still loves me though :o)

Why does it feel worse (for some people) when their Mother doesn't love them?

Interesting thread. I love my kids to bits but I don't think for one minute they return that love. My son seems to have a lot of patience with me,but then he doesn't have me constantly on his doorstep while my daughter has a distinct lack of patience. I try not to ask for too much because of this, but sometimes when you get old there are things you cannot manage on your own. You can't make someone love you.
