Safeguarding children at school

Can anyone please help me with where my chid stands regarding his safety at school. In his class is a child with extreme behavioural problems.

A year ago this child attacked my son in the toilet. He knocked him to the floor, ripped his shirt open and bit a hole in his chest. He was excluded internally for 2 days. They were then 6 years old.

There has since been various kicks, shoves and punches.

Since returning to school this term, my son has been in the wrong place a the wrong time systematically. He has kicked him in the head, strangled him, punched him, rugby tackled him and pounded his head against the wall. This after shouting F*** you C*** to the teacher repeatedly resulted in another exclusion for 2 days, this time off the premises. However, I feel like his verbal insults to the teacher in front of the class may have been the motive for exclusion rather than his aggressive behaviour towards Evan.

Today Evan handed me an injury slip, it had his ribs highlighted. He told me this kid had kicked him. I finally lost my rag and saw the headmaster who assured me that this child would not be back to school until at least tuesday. School behaviour codes suggest he should have excluded a long time before now, I understand he has behavioural problems and I feel sorry for the kid as I know he has a crappy homelife but Evan is suffering now. He doesnt want to go to school, hes over emotional at any roughhousing and he has wet the bed a few times recently, i feel this is due to stress.

How can I prevent this child being near him unsupervised? I don't think the school are having much luck with permanently excluding him, or do I need to speak to Somerset County Council myself???

Is it just your son that gets hurt or does this boy hurt others?
If it is more than just your lad then get the other parents together and make a combined protest. If the boy is as bad as you say then I would expect a lot more pupils are getting hurt by him.

As some of the previous answers have suggested you MUST contact the board of governors. I sit on the board of my childrens' school and can assure you that they will have to take your concerns very seriously. This is a child protection issue and not only should there be a designated child protection teacher, but there is a designated child protection governor, both of whom are trained in the area. Document every incident, express your concerns as to the seriousness of some of your sons injuries and if (god forbid) another incident occurs, you could seek medical attention to have concrete evidence of any physical harm. Not only does your son need protecting but so does the child who is hurting your him and constantly excluding him is obviously not working. Good luck and keep us posted x

He was excluded for two days and is back, I am now moving my son's school. I'm not going to beg for another child to be expelled so next week evan will start elsewhere.

If the child has behavioural problems to this excess he should be accompanied by a 1 to 1 at all times in the school and although this may seem that his behaviour gets him special attention it definitely should stop any violent outbursts and other children getting injured! However this child needs to be excluded and I would definitely look into contacting your county council this may help with permanently excluding him. Only problem is that if he's permanently excluded from this school and his behaviour is not addressed then he'll only do it to some other poor child at his new school
