Is This Bad Parenting?

I've just seen this on facebook;

"School started 5 mins ago and kids are still sparko in bed lol. ..not going to wake them they have had such a busy week"

This bothers me (not that it should as the family is nothing to do with me) but I can't decide if it should.

Would you give your kids the first day of term off if the two weeks they just had off tired them out or do you think, it's only one day, it doesn't really matter?

With parents having that attitude, then the future for those kids is bleakmand they will most likely grow up as "no hopers."

So let them sleep on........their future will not be adversely affected.

Terrible parenting.
the kids should have been in bed at a decent time, to ensure they had enough sleep to get up for school this morning.
Sadly, I also know someone like this, and I cringe whenever I read her status updates similar to this.
It's usually down to the parent being too lazy to get up on time and get them to school, rather than the kids being "shattered".

Not on your nelly, they've just had 2 weeks off! My daughter was nearly crying yesterday as she didn't want to go in, she still had to go though (with a right bad mood on her) ;)

My children would always go to bed a bit earlier on the night before school started again after a holiday so that they would be well rested. The tax payer is coughing up for their education. The least the parents can do is get them there on time IMO.

Not important, but then I won't send my children to school if I ever have any in the first place.

Those kids are lost already with that kind of parenting.Doesn't matter what day of term it is-it's giving the message that school is not all that important.And so work will be seen the same way later.

It's appalling parenting and not preparing them for the real world. Are you sure it's genuine and not a wind up ?

I can see one can argue it is a one off so not a big deal, but if it is being boasted and LOLed about, that implies it's the normal attitude.

Why wouldn't it bother you ? It's the citizens you and your offspring have to live amongst that is being formed into folk with bad habits/expectations. It's tomorrows society as well as todays.

maybe if parents got off on line forums and concentrated more on their children. they would be better organized in the am.!!!!!!!!

Awful parenting, but like sqad says, with parenting skills like that status seems to imply,a morning in bed will not affect the offsprings bleak future anyway.

Bad parenting! Children need structure and routine, allowing them to stay up late for two weeks is bound to disturb their pattern. What message is the parent giving out by allowing their child to stay home because they are a little tired? Might get away with it at school, but would find themselves out of a job very quickly if that attitude followed them through to adulthood.

I sometimes stay online until the early hours, yet I'm still ALWAYS up at 7am, tired or not.
There's no excuse and the children should come first.

I often sit in at my kids assembly and see kids coming in at 9.05. They're always really embarrassed, and you know it's not their fault but the fault of the parent.

My mum would have been kicking our bums out the door, she was always quite pleased when holidays ended! :c)

Bad parenting -children have to learn and accept there are things in life that need doing. An early night, school clothes out ready and bags packed -bet she's the type who is still flopping around in her onesie at 3.30pm.
