For People Whose Partners Sometimes Work Away

Mr Smow sometimes works away - maybe one night,sometimes two. I happened to mention to a friend that I never hear from him when he's away - not even a txt to say he's arrived and she said that's not normal lol. What do you think?

I think it depends on the individual and the couple. It's normal for some, not for others.

I find that very odd. My husband contacts me at least once a day from wherever in the world he happens to be.

OH went to Portugal for a 6-day golfing trip in May and he called me every evening, sent texts and even whatsapped photos.

I realise everyone is different but no contact would set off alarm bells for me...

I don't think it's the norm no but if he's always been like that I suppose it's OK for you. We always tell each other at least we've arrived safely as an absolute minimum otherwise I'd worry.

One would think from reading some of the replies that communication is a one-way thing.
The poor man could be sitting there thinking 'nobody cares'.

I always used to call/text to say that I was OK - so if I forgot (or wasn't able to for some reason) my OH would worry until I did.

She, on the other hand, tended only to call if she had something specific to say - so I never worried if I didn't hear.

And since being on sick leave I've visited the parents twice in 2 weeks. Each time OH has asked me to text him when I arrive to let him know I got here okay.

I ring or text to say I have arrived. After that I am quite blasé as far as communication goes.

He just says I'm being silly. Like I said its nothing but just ,think it's courtesy to say you've arrived at least. Oh well....
