my 4 year old has been at school since last september. She quickly stopped wearing socks and started wearing tights citing she "didnt want anyone to see my knickers". Now its going to be coming up to the time she cant really wear tights as it will be too hot, but shes still worried about the knickers thing. anyone have any suggestions? she does not want to wear trousers or culottes or shorts
Lots of little girls wear leggings in the summer, I think because they don't have feet in like tights they're not as hot. Lots of big girls wear them too :)
I'm worried that at 4 yrs. old she is worrying about showing her knickers, t.b.h. Why? This really needs careful, gentle checking-out. At 11 I would tuck my skirt into my knickers to do handstands.

Given that this question is serious, I would suggest something like the lycra running shorts used by athletes - but I would be worried.
Trousers would seem to me to be the answer...they can be very light and of suitable material for hot weather. They can look like skirts etc. Culottes would also be an answer .... look like skirts but have that element of modesty. If at that age she is worried about boys seeing her knickers it may be time to have a chat with the school to alert them
Jourdain, I would suggest that the skimpy little knickers of today are not like the knickers of yesteryear. Most of the little girls at our local school wear short Lycra shorts under their dresses.
Thanks, Naomi - I was, and still help out at, Secondary school level. My nearly-6-yr. old granddaughter, however, has no hang-ups about knickers. She is often to be seen hanging upside-down from a rope attached to a branch with a 'Princess' outfit hanging around her ears. (She's very musical and artistic, so possibly not a norm I can relate to.)
By the way, I picked up that you have suffered a loss - my genuine condolences.
I sometimes wear those kind of things under very sheer dresses in the summer and they're surprisingly cool, if you get light cotton ones. Otherwise I dunno tights would be really hot I think.
