Can I Claim Child Benefit.
4 Answers
My daughter and her husband both work and claim child benefit and tax credits for their six children. For the past two years, her eldest sixteen year old son has lived with me and my wife, and my daughter pays housekeeping for him, and buys clothes and everything else.
We are applying for a house move to social housing, and been told my grandson would not be included as a permitted occupant because we don't get child benefit for him.
If we did, would my daughter lose out on tax credits? My grandson costs her the same wherever he lives.
Your kind advice would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, your daughter will lose the child benefit & tax credits she gets for him. But she will still get child benefit & tax credit for the other 5 children.
You can't have two people claiming benefit / tax credit for the same child. It's one or the other.
