My son told me that a woman yelled at him when he went to the toilet with his mum today in a superstores toilet.

What is the acceptable age for this sensitive subject.

Can't see a problem really. We are all getting used to going into toilets now with male attendants cleaning them.
Exactly Kustard. The female toilets have cubicles.
What would you expect a man out with his 10-year old daughter to do?
Christ!!! Far too old.

However we now have body dysmorphics, gays, lesbians , transexuals....an Uncle Tom Cobbley and all.......No problem.....just tell him that he goes into MEN and females go into WOMEN.
So if you are a Mum & out on your own with a 10 year old male child and you need the Loo, are you supposed to leave them outside alone? A 'Superstore' is going to be very busy , what if a pervert tried to lure your child away while you were in the toilet? Some places have Parent and Child facilities but not many, another possibility is to use the disabled loo, which is often the baby change unit as well.
I would say the situation is a lot worse for a lone Dad out with a 10 year old daughter. Ladies use stalls in the loo, men use urinals which are 'in view' of all who enter.
I don't know. My OH would have probably took her into a pub.
EDDIE // So if you are a Mum & out on your own with a 10 year old male child and you need the Loo, are you supposed to leave them outside alone? //
Yes. A 10-year old child should be capable of putting up enough resistance and making enough noise to attract attention from other shoppers.
I'd still like to know what your wife's reaction was.
bhg....you don't know how you'll react. You think you do, but you don't. People freeze, especially children.
individual cubicle non gender specific loos with no outer chamber would put and end to all this nonsense.
There's one thing for sure; when I was ten, if I'd told my mates I had to go into toilets with my mum I'd have got tormented rotten for it.
It depends on the toilets.
Problem with "non gender specific loos" ( I can't stand that word it's toilets or lavatories) is that they would be complaints from the females about the dirty jokes and rhymes etched on the inside of the toilet doors ( I don't think that women do that..do they?)

I remember one of many.
"I am the only man who hasn't sh...ed Christine Keeler.
signed Mr Softy".
Yes they do Sqad.
ummmm,...Oh! there you go then......I have obviously never been in a female toilet.
Can you give us an example?
In pubs. There was more graffiti in the females toilets than males. You'd be surprised what some women do after a few drinks. Hopefully they grow out of it.
If a child feels he needs to go into the loo with his Mum at 10 then yes it's okay, but I would imagine he would be very much in the minority of 10 year olds. None in my family would, and I can;t think of friends kids who would either but that doesn't make it wrong, or inappropriate etc, and the woman who yelled at your son needed a slap.
Honestly...I think it comes down to the toilets. I've never accompanied my boys to the toilets in Morrison's...but I have to some of them in town. Actually, I'd rather they peed in a bush than use them.
My wife and I were cleaners for the local community center and social club. The Ladies loos were always FAR worse to clean than the Mens. EVERY day there were pee stains and droplets on the seats and often a 'No2' left floating in the pan.
My six year old grandson sometimes goes into the men's toilet by himself but I'm not always comfortable with that - someone could be lurking in there, I think men's toilets have the odd cubicle too. Maybe the answer is to go European and mix it up in broad daylight in the street!
