2 weeks ago I got caught shoplifting, as I am only 16 the shopkeeper called my parents instead of the police.
my parents said they don't want to see me go to jail so are going to punish me severely, they said they were going to make my punishment as close to prison life as possible, they sentenced me to 3 weeks imprisonment, which is HALF the school holidays.
MY PRISON DAY,
I have to get up at 7am, then shower and get dressed i am not allowed to wear my own clothes i have to wear my school clothes, navy blue shirt and black skirt, i then return to my room and my bedroom door is locked, i have to eat all my meals in my room , i am NOT allowed tv, phone etc, i am allowed internet for 2 hours par day as a privilege for good behaviour, this privilege can be taken away at any time, each time i am set written work to do,
each day i have to write out 300 times STEALING IS ONE OF THE WORST THINGS YOU CAN DO
i also have to write a 6 page essay each day, today i have to write an essay on UNACCEPAPTABLE BEHAVOUIR AND PUNISHMENTS, i am confined to my room at ALL times i am only let out to use the bathroom, otherwise my bedroom door remains locked, lights out and bed 9pm.
i have served nearly 2 weeks of my punishment and i HATE it so much i have begged my parents to let me off the last week , but they refuse, i am SO SO MISREABLE i have lost my freedom and i want out,

DO YOU THINK I SHOULD BE LET OFF THE LAST WEEK OF PUNISHMENT ?

Do I think you should be punished..yes. In this way?....yes. Do I think it ill help you to grow up and stop stealing? oh yes. Do you realise that by stealing from shops you are stealing from all of us. Shops don't lose out they just put the prices up to cover their expected losses through theft. We are all paying for people who are thieves and that is not fair.

I am taking this with a pinch of salt, but if only there were more parents like the ones you describe in your original post - then we might see less youth of today who have no respect for the rest of society.
so how did you get on the internet?
LadyCG Would you really confine your child to their room for three weeks? Don't get me wrong, punishment was needed but really? Three weeks? I would have make the child work free for the shopkeeper (assuming it was the local corner shop) for a couple of weeks but keeping a child in their room for extended lengths of time is tantamount to abuse.
If you are not making this up, book your parents in for some much-needed therapy.

\\ so how did you get on the internet? \\

From the OP

// i am allowed internet for 2 hours par day as a privilege for good behaviour //
That's tough love, as they say. You will thank them one day.
In that case, i think they are being too soft on you and I would take the internet away as well.
What did you steal?
AuntLydia - believe you me (18.31)I would.
...and why did you steal it?
Is this the first time you have been caught stealing and do you often steal?
The two hours must be over. We might have to wait until tomorrow for an answer.

Maybe you would prefer to let the Police handle it? Just let your parents know, I'm sure they can arrange it.
She'd have been better off going to the Police. They would not have given her a prison sentence! I am genuinely shocked at the idea anyone on here would imprison their children for three weeks in their bedroom. I think that more than the OP are wind up merchants to be honest.
Well I bet BB will never do it again.
Agree with you AuntLydia! I would not do this to my sons and I have never been dealt this kind of punishment when I ....... let's leave it at that.
You have one thing to be grateful for, you won't have your crime on permanent record anywhere - except with your parents. But think of what this has done to their trust in your character and conduct - do your level best to repair the damage as soon as possible. Your parents are the only people who instinctively are likely to love you for life. Trust is an important ingredient in love.
my mother punished me mercilessly physically and mentally for the smallest of thing. I don't love her and she doesn't even like me I'm sure. These punishments drove me away from home at an earlier age than both my siblings. I have never overly punished my 4 children or ever smacked and none are criminals. The worst I ever did was make my 15 year old cry because I pulled the plug in his Computer for the weekend cos he had not done his homework.
There is a happy medium AL. I would have punished one of my daughters like that if she had done the same as the poster - but both daughters had a lot of love as well. We have a very good relationship - see my current post in 'law'. It's a question of balance and they know I love them deeply. Grandchildren are exploring and finding the boundaries (and I'm quite tough on them) and they are still happy to be with me and accept the rules. You had a very bad experience, for which I send my deep sympathy.
