I can't see how it's not critical. Children learn from adults. In an ideal world they'll learn from good adults.

If a negative adult is a role model then the child will have a warped sense of right, wrong and positive, negative attitude. This could lead to social issues potentially making the child a bit of a bully or a bit more rough than the other kids
