Apparently there's a new curriculum which teaches the joys of, amongst other things, pornography and sodomy. To children as young as nine according to some reports (but maybe they are conflating 2 things for shock value)
Isn't this too much?
Can't give a link, they're either pornographic or the BBC who, of course, say it's marvellous stuff while glossing over the details.

Has this caused much trouble in Scotland?
I believe N. Ireland is adopting the same model which is a UN initiative.
I think young kids get on the internet and discover pornographic material anyhow. Might as well educate them on it.
but how can anyone comment when its all "apparently" and "maybe"?
Apparently 9 is too young to learn about the joys of sodomy. But maybe it isn't ...?
Question Author
Well, bedknob, the sites I've seen say they are teaching it to 9yr olds but I can't find a link to the actual curriculum and I know how some sites conflate things for shock value.
I thought maybe Scottish ABers would know more about it.
Question Author
Doubt many 9yr olds are interested in pornography, TD, yet.
Here is a link to the actual resource used :

https://rshp.scot/

Please feel free to search for the bits you don’t like and point us at them.

Apart from some hysterical grandstanding by that well known paragon of decency ‘The Sun’, I can’t find much evidence of any widespread upset about the content - even from the Religious Schooling loonies.
why do you care anyway - do you have any Scottish 9 year olds?
Question Author
No, I haven't got a daughter in Rotherham either, bedknobs. What a *** attitude.
Impossible to tell without the details really. I can't imagine it is age inappropriate though.

Thanks for giving me the Scottish Sun link, SD. Your other link just says videos/slides etc without details.
I see it's a fairly old story. Don't know why it was doing the rounds this morning.

you need to click on the links if you want to see what is actually taught
from the sun someone complaining that "Masturbation is positively promoted in schools". So blooming what? what's do shocking about that? as most people do it, what possible good could it do to decry it? just make everyone feel guilty?
Question Author
Seems I'm out of step with modern thinking. No great surprise, really.
I am a bit of a prude (and full of prejudice)
I'll just have to learn to live with it. (the majority)
From the link you posted, spice, that all sounds reasonable to me (except the religious part). Out of interest, what worries you about it?
well it's hardly a pain to have to live with what 9 year olds are being taught in Scotland. it's not the sort of thing that's likely to wake you up in the small hours is it? i'm not sure you are out of step - no-one here has said whether they agree with it or not (and clearly the people in the article agreed with you)
What is seen as 'promoting' something all depends how people interpret it.

//The curriculum explains that pornography bears little resemblance to real sexual relationships and “can be violent or degrading”, with behaviour that was “not appropriate in real life”.//

^ That is true and pretending pornography doesn't exist or warning against even being tempted to look is futile.

Re Masturbation, being taught that to touch yourself is fine in private but also warning against letting others touch you against your will is equally sensible.

Tiny Babies investigate themselves, totally normal.
If it is true, I think it is a disgrace!
Let children be children.
Shouldn't they be playing cowboys and Indians?
correction ^^^^ one person
(although I probably tend to agree with her) I do have more of a stake in it though as I have an 8 year old girl. she is not Scottish but they are probably doing the same sort of thing in England (or will be when they deign to start teaching again)
ok, correction ^^^^ 3 people!!
Had a wee chat with my grandson who is in primary 7 (age 12). He didn't know what I was talking about although he has had sex education in school.
