Mother's Death

In case anyone is going through the same thing, just to say that today was the final piece of business to be done, death on 17th October 2022. Funeral done November, house sale agreed December, probate applied for in January, only received 1st of June, house sale went through 30th June, final banking business happened today. I've been through some stressful times in my life but this was on another scale. So if anyone else has to go through this, I would say accept that most of the time it's all out of your hands and don't sit by the phone all day or look for emails all the time, it will drive you mad, and try to get some sleep, we are all absolutely shattered. It does come to an end. Nearly nine months but it's all over now and we can just remember our mum who was nearly 88 with great love

that long for probate? I've got some months to go then. But you're right, it's out of your hands, so don't take it all on yourself.

Yes it was four months plus for probate and you aren't allowed to chase it until 16 weeks so you have no idea what's going on

glad to hear the worst is behind you. It's a great loss, but the beauracracy is an added burden.

Good grief! That seems to be a ridiculously long time for probate to go through.

My father died in late October and I was driving a car, purchased from his estate after probate had gone through, by the end of November.

I sold my Dad's house very easily too. I realised that it was on a busy road, with several other houses for sale nearby, meaning that anyone viewing the other houses would see a 'For Sale' sign on my Dad's one. So I ran up such a sign on white A4 paper on my computer and then took it to a copy shop to get it enlarged to A2 on fluorescent paper. I put one copy in the front window of the house and one in the side window. I got a potential buyer phone me very soon afterwards and we'd completed the sale in full just a few weeks later (with no estate agent to pay!)
