I must admit it had never occurred to me as an issue  but I can see the football authorities have a duty of care to players.

Remember The Fast Show? They did jokes too.

This has got out of hand now.

Rather than make a 'thing' of it, why don't they just kick off a bit later?

Tv schedules naomi. They stagger start times and dates so as to cover as many games as possible. Also they have to leave so many hours gap between games for players.

It's no 'biggy. It only takes the same amount of time as goalkeepers take to release the ball when their side are ahead.

Oh ok.  Television didn't occur to me.   I know nothing about football - and it shows.  😂

It's ok that they have a short pause.

But won't their team be at a disadvantage while they are off the field ?

The game is paused, OG.

What is it that those in authority find difficult about keeping this particular superstition out of everyday life?

we should not be accommodating any religious nut cassery.

If you want your team at it's best then the managers should drop them. simples.

If Muslim players were not allowed this very brief respite, they would not be able to compete during Ramadan, depriving a few clubs clubs of their best players (think Mo Salah at Liverpool, for instance).

There are very few Muslim players in the football league so it's hardly worth getting one's Alan's in a Brahms. As i said earlier, the pause is only a brief one - a bit like the water-break when the weather in unusually hot.

Your 2nd post was added while i was typing, ttt. In answer to it, if i were a Liverpool fan, i would much rather have an half-fit Mo Salah start the match than be without him for it's entirity.

"If Muslim players were not allowed this very brief respite, they would not be able to compete during Ramadan, depriving a few clubs clubs of their best players (think Mo Salah at Liverpool, for instance)." - Well if their job is less important than relgious rowlocks they should be dropped and have a weeks wages deducted. The manager has a duty to put out the best team he can.

TWAU🙄

so you think religious clap trap is more important that the job ken? right oh!

As an atheist, of course i don't. But not everything is black and white, ttt - only in your world. I gave you Mo Salah as an example - by far the best player Liverpool have on their books. Are you saying that Arne Slot ought to drop Salah for an entire month's worth of fixtures? Surely it would be much better for the team, the fans and the player himself, were he allowed this very brief break to take on sustenance.

"Are you saying that Arne Slot ought to drop Salah for an entire month's worth of fixtures?"- no he should give the player the choice, religous rowlocks or Football, ain't rocket is it? He's not indespensable, they managed ok when he was injured.

"Surely it would be much better for the team, the fans and the player himself, were he allowed this very brief break to take on sustenance." - I thought the point was that they don't eat/drink during day light?
